Abstract: Signals of an immersive multimedia item are jointly considered for optimizing the quality of experience for the immersive multimedia item. During encoding, portions of available bitrate are allocated to the signals (e.g., a video signal and an audio signal) according to the overall contribution of those signals to the immersive experience for the immersive multimedia item. For example, in the spatial dimension, multimedia signals are processed to determine spatial regions of the immersive multimedia item to render using greater bitrate allocations, such as based on locations of audio content of interest, video content of interest, or both. In another example, in the temporal dimension, multimedia signals are processed in time intervals to adjust allocations of bitrate between the signals based on the relative importance of such signals during those time intervals. Other techniques for bitrate optimizations for immersive multimedia streaming are also described herein.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for causing to be provided contextual information for a content item. The system identifies that a subject in a content item is currently being referenced and determines when the subject was last referenced in the content item. For example, the system identifies a king being discussed by characters in a television series and determines the king was referenced three months ago. The system determines, based on the last time the subject was referenced, whether to provide contextual information about the subject. Using the determined three-month lapse in time since the king was last referenced, the system determines that contextual information about the king should be provided. Accordingly, the system causes to be displayed the contextual information after determining contextual information should be provided.

Abstract: An information processing apparatus for reproducing second content in synchronization with reproduction of first content by a second information processing apparatus different from the information processing apparatus, the first content comprising audio content. The information processing apparatus comprising circuitry configured to: extract a first feature from the audio content; obtain a second feature of the audio content, the second feature being together with the second content; compare the first feature with the second feature; and generate, based on results of the comparing, synchronization information used for reproducing the second content in synchronization with the first content.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for monitoring video games are disclosed. Example video game monitors disclosed herein include a network analyzer to communicatively couple with a communication interface of a video game console, the network analyzer to detect communication packets transferred over the communication interface of the video game console. Disclosed example video game monitors also include a processor to decode the communication packets detected by the network analyzer to determine an identity of a game being played by the video game console, and report the identity of the game to a data collection facility.

Abstract: According to one configuration, a monitor resource monitors conveyance of content streaming over a shared communication link between a server resource and a communication device, the communication device requesting segments of the content from a manifest file. Monitoring as described herein can include intercepting and inspecting data packets associated with conveyance of the content over the shared communication link. An analyzer resource analyzes bandwidth attributes of streaming the content over the shared communication link. Based on the attributes of streaming the content (such as bandwidth, adaptive bit rate, etc.) over the shared communication link, the monitor resource generates a report indicating a link quality provided to the communication device via the shared communication link conveying the stream of content.

Abstract: A video packaging and origination service can process requests for content segments from requesting user devices. The video packaging and origination service can receive multiple inputs from content sources and determine events in the depictions of the inputs. The video packaging and origination service can generate content streams from the detected events.

Abstract: The disclosed computer-implemented method may include (1) receiving, at a computing device, a compressed video bitstream that includes (A) video data and (B) in-band metadata that indicates a video quality of the compressed video bitstream, (2) extracting, at the computing device, the in-band metadata from the compressed video bitstream, (3) determining, based at least in part on the in-band metadata, the video quality of the compressed video bitstream, and then (4) making at least one video-processing decision in connection with the compressed video bitstream based at least in part on the video quality of the compressed video bitstream. An authoring tool imports media content at a default resolution and the media content is scaled so that the authoring tool and media content have a 1:1 correspondence for a coordinate grid to create interactive elements. The interactive elements are defined by element parameters. A portable package is created and distributed that includes the default resolution and element parameters. A request is received from the user device for the portable package along with device information. The portable package and the media content are delivered to the user device based on the request. A selection event is received and the element parameters are scaled based on the device information to determine if the selection event corresponds to the interactive element.

Abstract: An audience measurement service may monitor broadcasts in a region, ingesting closed captioning data, metadata, displayed text or logos, performing facial recognition on people, and/or generating audio/video fingerprints of broadcast content to create a database of content and associated keywords, along with times at which the content was broadcast. The audience measurement service may receive user search queries from a search provider and detect “spiking” queries. The audience measurement service may determine whether the spiking queries are related, contextually and temporally, to an item of content identified in the database, and infer that users generating the queries likely viewed the item of content. In some implementations, the audience measurement service may also infer that the users likely viewed other items of content (e.g. advertisements) displayed during the prior or subsequent few minutes on the same broadcast channel as the query-triggering item.
