  • Patent number: 6648970
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved method and apparatus for the application of powdered resins to threaded fasteners. In accordance with the present invention, the powdered resin handling system used to apply, collect, recycle and make-up the resin is generally enclosed; that is, with the exception of the application of the resin to the fasteners, the resin is generally maintained within conduit, housings or hoppers that are not open to the surroundings. This tends to minimize discharge of resin into the areas surrounding the fastener processing equipment and also isolates the resin from external environmental conditions that tend to degrade the resin over time. In addition, the present invention introduces fresh, new or make-up resin in a manner that assures intimate and thorough intermixing of the new and recycled resin while minimizing the cost and complexity of the equipment employed for that purpose.

  • Patent number: 6616760
Abstract: The present invention is a film forming unit for discharging a coating solution from a coating solution discharge nozzle toward a substrate to form a layer on a surface of the substrate, which has a supply flow path for supplying a cleaning fluid to a discharge flow path continuing to a discharging port of the coating solution discharge nozzle. When the cleaning fluid is positively supplied directly to the discharge flow path of the coating solution discharge nozzle, the supply pressure of the cleaning fluid as well as the capability of cleaning is added. Therefore, further effective cleaning is attained in compare with the conventional case where a coating solution discharge nozzle is simply dipped into a cleaning fluid. In consequence, even when the discharging port of the nozzle is minute, it is possible to perfectly remove the contamination. This allows the discharge pressure to remain constant so as to form a uniform coating layer on the substrate.

  • Patent number: 6461433
Abstract: A method and apparatus for precisely applying radioactive material to a substrate such as a brachytherapy device is disclosed. A radioactive fluid adapted to cure rapidly is deposited as discrete dots onto a surface with a fluid-jet printhead. The apparatus comprises a fluid-jet printhead in communication with a chamber containing radioactive fluid to be applied by the printhead. The printhead is microprocessor driven, and the microprocessor may be provided with feedback from a station where the radioactivity deposited on a preceding substrate in a batch is measured, permitting the system to be recalibrated on an ongoing basis as the batch of printed devices is produced. Compensation for attenuation of radiation by a casing may also be made part of the feedback technique. Also disclosed is a brachytherapy device having printed on a surface dots of radiation-emitting material, in a pattern comprising various bands, dots or areas.

  • Patent number: 6322629
Abstract: An apparatus and method for coating electrostatically charged powder on a ring-shaped article having an inner surface defining a central hole. The article to be coated is held by a holding fixture while electrostatic powder is being sprayed onto the surface of the article. The holding fixture includes a first fixture having a plurality of holding hooks circularly arranged and elastically deformable radially, and a second fixture having a rod, the first and second fixtures being inserted through the central hole of the article from opposite sides to engage each other, with the rod engaging the holding hooks to elastically deform the hooks and bring them into abutment with the inner surface of the article. The powder ejected from the spray reach not only the outer surface, but also the internal surface of the ring shaped article because the central hole is not blocked or covered by the holding fixture, and a space is left between the ring shaped article and the end surfaces of the holding fixture.

  • Patent number: 6299690
Abstract: A method of lubricating the wall surfaces of a die cavity used in powder metallurgy involves spraying the wall surfaces with tribocharged particles of a lubricant material. The method is carried out by means of an apparatus centered about a plug member which has a three-dimensional shape conforming generally to that of the article to be formed. The plug member is slightly smaller than the article so that when the plug member is inserted into the die cavity there is a small, but uniform, gap created between the outer wall surfaces of the plug member and the walls of the die cavity. The plug member is secured to a closing plate which can be inserted into the die cavity so as to be sealed therewith. The closing plate is provided with vent holes and the plug member has a plurality of spaced apart tubes extending therethrough, which tubes exit at one or more of the wall surfaces of the plug member.
