  • Patent number: 5795176
Abstract: The present invention is an apparatus and method for providing a retrofitable cover on a preexisting plug which includes a lock on or quick release type connection. The retrofitable cover provides environment proof protection to an electrical connection between an extension cord and an electrical outlet box. The cover includes a hollow tubular housing and a hollow tubular end cap. As the end cap is tightened onto the hollow tubular housing, the housing contacts and compresses a bushing in the end cap to create a leak-free sealing of the interior of the housing. Another embodiment of the present invention is an extension cord which provides power to a plurality of receptacles which have the lock on and quick release connection feature.

  • Patent number: 5795172
Abstract: A zero insertion force card edge connector for a printed circuit board assembly tester. The test connector includes a plurality of electrical contacts located within a slot of a housing. The contacts are connected to a test motherboard by a flexible circuit board. Also located within the slot is a plate which can be moved between an open position and a closed position by an actuator. When the plate is in the open position a printed circuit board assembly can be inserted into the test connector without having to overcome any spring forces of the connector. The circuit board assembly is inserted into the slot so that the contacts are aligned with surface pads located along an edge of the circuit board. The actuator is then actuated to move the plate into the closed position and push the contacts into the surface pads. The surface pads of the board are electrically connected to the test motherboard through the contacts and flexible circuit board.

  • Patent number: 5775936
Abstract: The invention is designed to detect an incomplete engagement of a connector at an earlier stage. A female connector 10 is formed with a locking arm 13, and a male connector 20 is formed with an engaging groove 23. A short-circuiting fitting 41 is mounted in the lower portion of the locking arm 13, and detection terminals 42 are inserted below the locking arm 13. Accordingly, as the locking arm 13 is deformed at an intermediate stage of an engaging operation, the short-circuiting fitting 41 is moved downward, thereby electrically connecting the detection terminals 42. When engaging projection 13c formed on the locking arm 13 pops into the engaging groove 23, thereby fully engaging the connectors 10 and 20, the detection terminals 42 are electrically disconnected. In other words, by being notified of the intermediate stage of the engaging operation, an operator can determine the completion of the engaging operation earlier.

  • Patent number: 5775927
Abstract: A coaxial connector is provided with front and rear center contacts slidably engaged with one another and moveable from a first relative position where the front contact engages the rear contact and a second position where the front contact is spaced axially from the rear contact. A spring is disposed between the front and rear contacts and is operative to urge the front contact forwardly and out of engagement with the rear contact. A resistor is disposed in permanent engagement with the rear contact. Unmating of the coaxial connector causes the front contact to move forwardly under the action of the spring and out of engagement with the rear contact. This leaves the rear contact in communication with the resistor which functions to terminate the signal generated to the rear contact.

  • Patent number: 5766037
Abstract: A self clamping connector 10 for a radio frequency coaxial cable having a helically corrugated outer conductor 14 which does not require flaring of the outer conductor of the cable is disclosed. The connector includes a clamping back nut 30 having a plurality of resilient fingers 32 at one end. Each of the resilient fingers 32 have an outer conductor matching threaded portion 38. A cup shaped collet 40, further including a base 42 having an opening 44 therein, is positioned over the resilient fingers 32 to clamp the fingers 32 onto the helically corrugated outer conductor. The cup shaped collet 40 also enables the connector to collapse part of the outer conductor corrugation. The collapsed corrugation is held between the collet and the resilient fingers. A body 50, having threading to enable coupling to the clamping back nut 30, forces the cup shaped collet to remain over the resilient fingers when the connector is in the assembled state.
