  • Patent number: 8755392
Abstract: A system and method for establishing communications channels between and among peers in a peer-to-peer networking environment. Pipes may be used as communication channels for sending and receiving messages and other data between services or applications over input and output endpoints. Pipes may be asynchronous, unidirectional, stateless and unreliable. Bidirectional pipes may also be supported. Pipes may have ends that may be moved around and bound to different peers at different times. Point-to-point and propagate pipes may be supported. Pipes may connect peers that have a direct physical link and peers that do not have a direct link. Peers may communicate through pipes without knowing on which peer a pipe endpoint is bound. A message is sent to all peer endpoints currently connected (listening) to the pipe. The set of connected endpoints may be obtained from a pipe service using a pipe binding protocol.

  • Patent number: 8743782
Abstract: A user initiates a request for determination of position of a mobile device in an area where there is no GPS signal. The position of the mobile device is determined by using cell tower triangulation methods using the wireless operator network. If the mobile device is in communication with a wireless local area network access point, the mobile device provides information about the address of the wireless local area network access points within range and the signal strength of the wireless access points. The server then stores the determined position in a database in connection with each address and signal strength provided by the wireless local area network access point. Thus the position of the wireless local area network access point has now been recorded and can be used in the future to determine the position of a mobile device.

  • Patent number: 8737409
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided that facilitate establishing multiple sub-connections between a correspondent node (CN) and a mobile node (MN), through a home agent (HA) to provide multipath functionality over multiple MN interfaces. The MN can connect to multiple networks using multiple MN interfaces, receiving care-of addresses (CoA) at each network. The MN can establish multiple connections to the CN specifying, to the HA, a different 5-tuple (or n-tuple) for each connection. The different 5-tuple can include a different port number related to a home address assigned by the HA. Also, bindings at the HA can be updated to associate the different 5-tuple with a CoA of one of the multiple MN interfaces. In this regard, the HA can route packets to the MN from the CN based at least in part on determining the HoA port number in the packet associated with the CoA of an MN interface.

  • Patent number: 8711877
Abstract: In an apparatus for connection control between two terminals, a communication unit transmits or receives a connection control signal to or from the terminals. A storage stores media format information usable on the two terminals, which are to be supplied with the media format information on media formats converted by a media format converter. A media format information supplementing unit references the media format information storage, based on the connection control signal received from the terminal, and verifies a possible presence of common media format information usable by the terminals to be interconnected. If there is no common media format information, predetermined media format information is supplemented to the connection control signal, and a resulting connection control signal is delivered to the communication device. Thus, media negotiation may be made even when media formats usable on the two terminals differ from each other.
