  • Publication number: 20110042314
Abstract: A method for producing clean water and electricity, in which water to be cleaned undergoes membrane distillation through one or several units (1) including a first wall (2) that is impermeable to water and has the form of a sheet, a membrane (3) through which water in the gaseous phase can pass, and through which water in fluid phase cannot pass, and a second wall (4) in the form of a sheet. The walls are located on different sides of and at a certain distance from the membrane (3), where water is led in between the first wall (2) and the membrane (3),and where the second wall is caused to be colder than the water. The first wall (2) acts as a solar cell panel (8) with electrically active layers (9) facing away from the membrane, and the solar cell panel is located such that it is illuminated by sunlight.

  • Publication number: 20090294271
Abstract: The present invention refers to a device (1) for cleaning fluid from contaminating matter, which device comprises a vessel (11) for fluid, a heating element (12) for heating fluid, control electronics (13) to control the heating element (12), and also a temperature sensor (14) for measuring the temperature of the fluid. The control electronics (13) is adapted to lower the heating capacity of the heating element (12) when the fluid has reached a predetermined temperature according to temperature sensor (14) and thereafter let the fluid be heated by a lower effect during a predetermined time period according to a time measuring unit (15) belonging to the device. This time measuring unit (15) comprises a frequency counting unit (15a), adapted to count periods in the supply current (16) input to the device (1).

  • Patent number: 7056371
Abstract: A liquid cleaning device comprises a vessel (1), a bottom plate (3), a heating device and a tubular riser (12) arranged in the vessel for heated liquid ascending through the riser, the heated liquid from the upper, open end of the riser running back through force of gravity down and outside of the riser to be reheated and ascend agains through the riser, and so on. The vessel—61) is cylindrical and substantially its entire base (17) can be heated by means of the heating device (171). A plurality of discs (51–54) of equal size are arranged in the upper part of the vessel (1), said discs having a central aperture (510) for the riser (12) and a plurality of small holes (511) distributed uniformly across the entire surface of the discs and provided with drip edges (5110). A distributor (14) is arranged at the upper, open end of the riser (12) to distribute the hot liquid coming out of the ruser uniformly over the uppermost disc (51).

  • Patent number: 5788835
Abstract: A water purifier which works in accordance with the membrane distillation principle includes a degassor for degassing incoming crude water prior to commencing the membrane distillation precess; a membrane for the membrane distillation of degassed water; and an outlet which functions to discharge a residual quantity of degassed undistilled water when a degassed undistilled water level has fallen to a predetermined lower level in a container which receives the crude water to be purified. The container is provided with an upper level sensor and a lower level sensor and a temperature sensor. The upper level sensor functions to activate the start of circulator for the circulation of crude water through the degassor, and also to activate the start of crude water heater. When the level of water in the container falls, the lower level sensor functions to activate opening of the outlet means so as to discharge remaining undistilled water.

  • Patent number: 5290403
Abstract: A liquid evaporating apparatus includes a liquid inlet 1 to which an evaporator 2 is connected which incorporates a gas inlet 28 and gas flow channels defined by vapor-permeable hydrophobic walls 23, 24, 25, 26. The apparatus may be used to moisturize air in a room, in which case it is configured to circulate room air through the evaporator and to discharge vaporized liquid through the output side 22 of the evaporator and into the room. Alternatively, the apparatus may be used to cleanse liquid, in which case it includes a condensing chamber 3 connected to the output side of the evaporator. The apparatus will also include a closed gas loop 4 which is located between the output side and the input side 21 of the evaporator and which incorporates a fan 5 for transporting a vapor-gas mixture continuously to the condensing chamber.
