  • Patent number: 9124860
Abstract: A method for storing a video summary for a digital video sequence captured with a digital video capture device, comprising: capturing a digital video sequence with the digital video capture device, wherein the digital video sequence includes a plurality of video frames; storing the digital video sequence in a processor-accessible memory; identifying one or more key video snippets, each key video snippet corresponding to a set of video frames from the stored digital video sequence; assembling the key video snippets to form a video summary; and storing the video summary in a processor-accessible memory by storing metadata associated with the stored digital video sequence, wherein the metadata provides an indication of the video frames corresponding to the video summary.

  • Publication number: 20060274156
Abstract: In an image sequence stabilization method and a camera, a sequence of input digital images are captured. The sequence of input digital images is replicated to provide a corresponding sequence of archival images and a corresponding sequence of display images. The archival image sequence is automatically stabilized to provide a stabilized archival image sequence. The display image sequence is automatically stabilized to provide a stabilized display image sequence. The stabilization methods used for the two sequences are different, although both can be digital.

  • Publication number: 20050141774
Abstract: In compressions of digital images, image types are defined, each having a preassigned quantization step-size set. The digital image is decomposed to produce a plurality of subbands. Coefficients of the subbands are quantized according to the quantization step-size set of the base image type to provide quantized coefficients. Each subband is partitioned into codeblocks. The codeblocks are each assigned one of the image types and a corresponding quantization step-size set. Bitplanes are formed from from the quantized coefficients. Bitplanes or partial-bitplanes having a discard parameter in a predetermined range are discarded. The discard parameter is a function of the assigned step-size set of the respective codeblock.

  • Publication number: 20050018911
Abstract: In transcoding a frequency transform-encoded digital video signal representing a sequence of video frames, a foveated, compressed digital video signal is produced and transmitted over a limited bandwidth communication channel to a display according to the following method: First, a frequency transform-encoded digital video signal having encoded frequency coefficients representing a sequence of video frames is provided, wherein the encoding removes temporal redundancies from the video signal and encodes the frequency coefficients as base layer frequency coefficients in a base layer and as residual frequency coefficients in an enhancement layer. Then, an observer's gaze point is identified on the display. The encoded digital video signal is partially decoded to recover the frequency coefficients, and the residual frequency coefficients are adjusted to reduce the high frequency content of the video signal in regions away from the gaze point.
