  • Patent number: 5769441
Abstract: A parallel vehicle includes three main control systems. The first controls the position and angle of the two parallel wheels relative to a fixed chassis, enabling the wheels to be moved outwardly and inwardly and the camber varied for greater stability, aerodynamic effect, or turning. This first system may be mechanically or hydraulically actuated, but preferably is controlled by a pair of control members whose position relative to the chassis corresponds to the desired position of the wheels relative to the chassis in order to provide an intuitive control mechanism. The second system is the propulsion system which may, for example, take the form of a derailleur drive of the type used in bicycles, but with power from the propulsion system being transmitted to the wheels via a rotating cable and individual gearboxes for each wheel which permit the direction of the wheels to be reversed.

  • Patent number: 5730256
Abstract: A mechanical anti-lock braking apparatus for intermittently releasing pressure applied by a brake shoe to a wheel being braked includes a control member, a power input for causing the control member to rotate with the wheel around a rotational axis, and a control input for changing the position of the control member relative to a follower connected to the calipers or brackets to which the brake shoe is mounted. The control member and/or the follower has a shape which causes the follower to oscillate as the control member rotates, with the relative position of the control member and follower determining the magnitude of the oscillations.

  • Patent number: 5594414
Abstract: An accident alarm system continuously assesses the potential for a collision between a host vehicle and an object, based solely on input signals representative of the host vehicle velocity and the distance to the object measured at intervals at time t, by first assessing the status of the host vehicle to determine whether it is moving with constant velocity, stationary, accelerating, or decelerating, and then carrying out different signal processing routines to determine, as necessary, whether the object is moving with constant velocity, stationary, accelerating, or decelerating, the magnitude of the host vehicle and object accelerations, and the direction of movement of the object. Warning signals are generated based on these determinations, which assume that the vehicle and object will continue to possess the same acceleration or deceleration until a collision occurs.
