  • Patent number: 9657542
Abstract: A well tractor for use in inserting a bottom hole assembly into a wellbore, the well tractor including a tractor body, and two or more wheels connected to the tractor body by pivot arms and having a retracted position and a deployed position, the at least two wheels moveable between the retracted and deployed positions by hydraulic cylinders attached to the pivot arms. The well tractor further includes a track creating a loop around at least two wheels and engaged with the wheels, so that when the wheels rotate, the track also rotates around the wheels. When the wheels are in the retracted position, the track is maintained in close proximity to the tractor body, and when the wheels are in the deployed position, the track extends radially away from the tractor body and into contact with surfaces of the wellbore.

  • Publication number: 20150330198
Abstract: Provided is a method and composition for the in-situ generation of synthetic sweet spots in tight-gas formations. The composition can include gas generating compounds, which upon activation, exothermically react to generate heat and gas. The method of using the composition includes injecting the composition into a tight-gas formation such that upon activation, the heat and gas are generated, resulting in the formation of fractures and microfractures within the formation.

  • Publication number: 20140138084
Abstract: Embodiments of a method and apparatus for locating lateral wellbores extending from a main wellbore includes a caliper sensing tool having spring actuated calipers extending radially therefrom. Each of the calipers is connected to a sensor, such as a linear variable displacement sensor, that is used to calculate the radial extension distance of the respective caliper. When the tool is inserted through a wellbore and moves past a lateral wellbore opening, the calipers extend into the lateral wellbore opening. The extension, as well as contact with the surfaces of the lateral wellbore, are used to determine the wellbore depth location and azimuthal direction of the lateral wellbore. A deflectable steering arm is operable to be selectively steered into the lateral opening to facilitate access to the lateral wellbore for logging or intervention purposes.

  • Publication number: 20120156787
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention enables users to determine the efficiency of acid fracturing in stimulating a formation. The testing procedures of embodiments of the present invention examine the elastic, plastic, and creeping effects on closing an acidized fracture during the life span of an oil/gas well. If it is determined that an acidized fracture will be closed for a given stress and temperature, then proppant fracturing should be used; otherwise, acid fracturing is the stimulation treatment to consider. The testing results also provide an estimation of the lifetime of an acid fracture for a given set of in-situ conditions of stress and temperature. If the lifetime is determined to be too short to make the fracturing treatment economically feasible, a different stimulation method should be considered, such as proppant fracturing or matrix acidizing.
