  • Publication number: 20240093592
Abstract: A method is disclosed, where the method includes obtaining a water-leg sample from a carbonate facies and an oil-leg sample from the carbonate facies and determining a characteristic of a cement in each sample. The method further includes determining a volume of cement in each sample and determining a binary change flag indicating a temporal change in pore water geochemistry based, at least in part, on the volume and the characteristic of the cement in each sample.

  • Publication number: 20230375457
Abstract: A rock testing system includes a rock sample having organic matter provided on a stand in a testing device and a photothermal laser that emits a selected wavelength corresponding to an absorption peak of the organic matter. Methods for testing the rock sample include irradiating the rock sample with the photothermal laser to selectively heat the organic matter and monitoring porosity of the rock sample as the organic matter is heated.

  • Publication number: 20230258075
Abstract: Systems and methods for evaluating hydrocarbon properties. At least one of the systems includes: a drilling machine configured to drill a borehole; a plurality of infrared cameras configured to capture infrared image data representing a plurality of infrared images of at least one core sample extracted from the borehole; a computer-readable memory comprising computer-executable instructions; and at least one processor configured to execute the computer-executable instructions, in which when the at least one processor is executing the computer-executable instructions, the at least one processor is configured to carry out operations including: receiving the infrared image data captured by the plurality of infrared cameras; determining, based on the infrared image data, at least one hydrocarbon weight value of the at least one core sample.

  • Publication number: 20230229827
Abstract: A rock modeling method is disclosed. An effective rock property of a rock sample is determined based on a digital rock. Instead of upscaling rock properties, the digital rock is constructed by upscaling relationships and rock physics models of segmented rock materials. Relationships between different scalar, elastic, and petrophysical properties of different segmented rock materials are established at the high-resolution scale where the pore structure is resolved. These relationships are then applied to the same rock material at the macro-scale. Finally, the effective rock properties are computed using Darcy-like solver to get the final values at a representative rock volume. Embodiments allow for performing non-destructive fluid/solid substitution and other reproducible digital experiments to study control factors that affect these relationships within rocks.

  • Patent number: 11220893
Abstract: System and methods for heating boreholes include laser generators to trigger a chemical reaction to break down heavy hydrocarbons in boreholes. The systems and methods use arrays of laser generators at the borehole surface or within the borehole to heat the heavy hydrocarbons. The systems and methods may include hydrocarbon sensors within the borehole to detect gas seepage resulting from heating of the heavy hydrocarbons.
