  • Patent number: 5962594
Abstract: Segmented polyolefins, which are produced by the reaction of mixtures of powdery polyolefins and polyolefin granulates with unsaturated monomers in the presence of thermally decomposing free radical-forming agents in continuous mixers in two consecutive reaction steps in the solid phase, a reaction step in a solid phase/melt transition phase and a melt homogenizing step, have a high strength and tenacity. The segmented polyolefins, as well as mixtures with conventional polyolefins, are suitable for the production of films, sheets, fibers, panels, coatings, pipes, hollow objects and foams.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 27, 1998
Date of Patent: October 5, 1999
    Assignee: Borealis AG
Inventors: Manfred Raetzsch, Hartmut Bucka, Achim Hesse, Norbert Reichelt
  • Patent number: 5929127
Abstract: Fine-celled polyolefin foams of high dimensional stability at elevated temperatures and high stiffness, with foam densities ranging from 10 to 600 kg/m.sup.3, consisting of mixtures of polypropylenes and polyolefins, which were reacted with bifunctional, unsaturated monomers and/or hydrolyzable, ethylenically unsaturated organosilane compounds in the presence of thermally decomposing free radical-forming agents in two reactive process steps and subsequently foamed. The fine-celled polyolefin foams are suitable for use in the packaging sector, preferably for packaging foods, for external and internal parts of motor vehicles and for components of electric and electronic equipment.

  • Patent number: 5883151
Abstract: Polypropylene mixtures of increased stress-crack resistance and melt strength can be produced by irradiating polypropylene powders with low average particle diameters by low energy electron-beam accelerators with energies of 150 to 300 keV. The polypropylene mixtures produced are suitable particularly for producing films, sheets, panels, coatings, pipes, hollow objects and foamed materials.
