Patent number: 7004237Abstract: A pair of round corrugated heat transfer plates provide a cassette with the corrugations of one heat exchanger plate angled relative to the other so as to form channels for fluid flow of a primary fluid and a secondary fluid. A plurality of the cassettes are contained within a housing and have a pair of port holes. The housing has a cylindrical shell, a bottom cover and a top cover. The shell has an inlet nozzle and an outlet nozzle for the secondary fluid. The top cover has an inlet nozzle and an outlet nozzle for a primary fluid. The nozzles are aligned with the port holes. A spring device compensates for any mechanical or thermal expansion of the cassettes. A prevents short-circuiting of the fluid.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2002Date of Patent: February 28, 2006Assignee: Delaware Capital Formation, Inc.Inventors: Achint P. Mathur, Jason Michael Fulmer

Patent number: 6516874Abstract: The invention relates to an all-welded plate heat exchanger comprised of a plurality of plates welded together to form cassettes that are stacked one upon the other so as to provide primary and secondary alternating channels through which fluids are adapted to flow for exchanging heat. The primary channels provided within the cassettes connect at opposite ends with inlet and outlet openings. The cassettes are welded along two opposing sides via resistance seam welding. Baffle clips are fastened between the cassettes to partially close off the sides of the secondary channels provided between the cassettes. Two inlet headers, two outlet headers, a top cover member and a bottom cover member enclose the stacked cassettes.Type: GrantFiled: December 5, 2001Date of Patent: February 11, 2003Assignee: Delaware Capital Formation, Inc.Inventors: Achint P. Mathur, Chuanbao Gu, Jason Michael Fulmer

Publication number: 20030000688Abstract: The present invention relates to a plate heat exchanger and its method of construction. A pair of round corrugated heat transfer plates provide a cassette with the corrugations of one heat exchanger plate angled relative to the other so as to form angular channels for fluid flow of a primary fluid and a secondary fluid. A plurality of the corrugated cassettes are contained within a housing and are provided with a pair of port holes. The housing is in the form of a cylindrical shell and includes a bottom cover member and a top cover member. The cylindrical shell has an inlet nozzle and an outlet nozzle on opposed sides of the shell for the secondary fluid while the top cover member is provided with an inlet nozzle and an outlet nozzle for a primary fluid. The nozzles of the top cover member are aligned with port holes formed in each of the cassettes. Depending on the type of use, either the portholes or the cassette outer edge may be welded, with gaskets used alternately on the fouling side(s).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2002Publication date: January 2, 2003Inventors: Achint P. Mathur, Jason Michael Fulmer

Patent number: 5469914Abstract: A plate heat exchanger having a stack of plates with spaces between the plates defining passages for hot and cold fluids. The ends of the plates define inlet and outlet openings for the fluid passages. The openings are enlarged by bending the end of one of the two plates for each flow path away from the corresponding end of the other of these plates and welding it to an adjacent plate. Preferably the ends of the plates are triangular, or V-shaped, to lengthen the openings along each edge of the V.Type: GrantFiled: June 14, 1993Date of Patent: November 28, 1995Assignee: Tranter, Inc.Inventors: Roger C. Davison, Achint P. Mathur

Patent number: 5070939Abstract: Each plate of the heat exchanger has the usual groove for receiving a gasket. The gasket has a main body portion secured to the bottom of the groove by spots of glue at spaced points along the length of the groove. The gasket is free of attachment to the groove between the spaced points. Nubs may be molded on the outer or inner edge of the gasket at spaced points to indicate where the glue is applied. The nubs lie in lateral extensions of the groove. The spots of glue, instead of being located in the groove proper to adhere the main body portion of the gasket, may be located in the groove extensions to adhere the nubs.Type: GrantFiled: May 17, 1991Date of Patent: December 10, 1991Assignee: Tranter, Inc.Inventor: Achint P. Mathur

Patent number: 4995455Abstract: A heat exchanger plate has an elongated peripheral groove spaced inwardly from the edge of the plate. Openings are provided in the outer side wall of the groove. A gasket has an elongated main body portion seated in the groove with integral tabs projecting through the openings. The tabs may be long enough to be grasped from the underside of the plate and pulled through the openings to fully seat the main body portion of the gasket in the groove. The tabs may also have shoulders engaged with an edge of the openings to retain the tabs in the installed position. Tabs are also disclosed which have a button on the outer end which will snap into the opening under downward pressure. As an alternative to gasket tabs, recesses may be formed in the main body portion of the gasket to fit under tabs on the outer side wall of the plate groove.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1990Date of Patent: February 26, 1991Assignee: Tranter, Inc.Inventor: Achint P. Mathur

Patent number: 4905758Abstract: A heat exchanger plate having a main groove spaced inwardly from the edge of the plate, and sub-grooves extending from the main groove toward the plate edge. Openings are provided in opposite sides of each sub-groove. A gasket of flexible, compressible material has a main body portion seated in the main groove and integral tabs seated in the sub-grooves with the sides of the tabs projecting into the openings to provide a snap-in connection. The sub-grooves above and between the sub-groove openings are completely open and unobstructed to permit the tabs to be pressed downwardly thereinto.Type: GrantFiled: July 3, 1989Date of Patent: March 6, 1990Assignee: Tranter, Inc.Inventors: Achint P. Mathur, Virgil F. Gates

Patent number: 4438807Abstract: A high performance heat transfer tube for use in an evaporator of a refrigeration system is disclosed. The tube has at least one helically extending fin convolution on its external surface and at least one helically extending rib on its internal surface. The fin convolution has bent over tip portions which touch the adjacent convolution to form subsurface passages at those sections of the fin convolution which are not located above an internal rib. Depressed sections of the fin convolution located above an internal rib have bent over tip portions which do not touch the adjacent convolution to form cavities. The subsurface passages and cavities form a subsurface channel having fluid communication with the surroundings of the tube through the cavity openings.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1981Date of Patent: March 27, 1984Assignee: Carrier CorporationInventors: Achint P.
