  • Patent number: 10585886
Abstract: Systems and methods for information retrieval are provided that permit users and/or processing entities to access and define synthetic data, synthetic objects, and/or synthetic groupings of data in one or more collections of information. In one embodiment, data access on an information retrieval system can occur through an interpretation layer which interprets any synthetic data against data physically stored in the collection. Synthetic data can define virtual data objects, virtual data elements, virtual data attributes, virtual data groupings, and/or data entities that can be interpreted against data that may be stored physically in the collection of information. The system and methods for information retrieval can return results from the one or more collections of information based not only on the data stored, but also on the virtual data generated from interpretation of the stored data.

  • Patent number: 8655869
Abstract: A data-driven information navigation system and method enable search and analysis of a set of objects or other materials by certain common attributes that characterize the materials, as well as by relationships among the materials. The invention includes several aspects of a data-driven information navigation system that employs this navigation mode. The navigation system of the present invention includes features of a knowledge base, a navigation model that defines and enables computation of a collection of navigation states, a process for computing navigation states that represent incremental refinements relative to a given navigation state, and methods of implementing the preceding features.

  • Patent number: 7428528
Abstract: A data-driven, hierarchical information search and navigation system and method enable search and navigation of sets of materials by certain common attributes that characterize the materials. A rules engine provides for manipulation of the content displayed to the user based on the query entered by the user. The rules engine includes one or more rules with a trigger and an action. The action of a rule is performed only if the trigger is satisfied. A trigger may be specified in terms of expressions of attribute-value pairs and is evaluated against a given query or navigation state. The actions can include various techniques for content manipulation, such as supplementing content, rendering content in a particular way, and sorting content in a particular way. An action may be specified in terms of navigation states. The rules engine may include a script for processing the rules.

  • Publication number: 20040117366
Abstract: A query interpretation method and system uses a combination of context-independent and contextual evaluation to compute interpretations for multiple-term queries. The present invention can be used to search a collection of items, each of which is associated with one or more terms. In certain embodiments, query interpretation involves generating several candidate multiple-term interpretations and scoring them to select one or more interpretations. In certain embodiments, query interpretation involves identifying single-term interpretations for the terms in the query, determining context-independent scores for those single-term interpretations, identifying a plurality of candidate multiple-term interpretations, determining a contextual score for each candidate multiple-term interpretation, and generating one or more multiple-term interpretations that are optimal with respect to a combination of the context-independent and contextual scoring functions.
