    Abstract: A food processing apparatus comprises a container for food to be processed, the container having a removable cover arranged to engage with the container, and a tool drive for a processing tool, wherein the apparatus is arranged to operate in a first processing mode when the cover is engaged with the container, and is arranged to operate in a second processing mode when the cover is not engaged with the container, in which in the second processing mode, use of the tool drive for processing is restricted with respect to the first processing mode. Thus the apparatus can operate in a ‘safe’ mode when the lid is not engaged.
