  • Publication number: 20240141736
Abstract: A drill rod having a central axis can comprise a hollow, elongate body having a box end portion defining a first end of the elongate body and an opposing pin end portion. The elongate body can have an outer surface that defines a circumference of the elongate body. A plurality of stabilizing projections can extend outwardly from the circumference of the elongate body. The plurality of stabilizing projections can be spaced from the first end by at least 40 cm. The plurality of stabilizing projections can be spaced about the circumference of the elongate body.

  • Publication number: 20240110445
Abstract: A drill bit having a longitudinal axis extending through a center of the drill bit is disclosed. A plane including the longitudinal axis of the drill bit bisects the drill bit and divides the drill bit into first and second sides. The drill bit has a shank defining an interior space and a crown coupled to the shank. The crown has a circumferential outer surface, a cutting face, and at least one bore that extends through the crown from the interior space of the shank to the cutting face. Each bore has an outlet defined by the cutting face. The cutting face defines a face channel that extends to the circumferential outer surface of the crown. The face channel has an outlet where the face channel meets the circumferential outer surface of the crown. The longitudinal axis intersects the face channel. The majority of the perimeter of the outlet of each bore is positioned on the first side of the drill bit. The outlet of the face channel is on the second side of the drill bit.

  • Publication number: 20230399912
Abstract: An overshot assembly can include a distal body portion. The distal body portion can have a central axis, a length along the central axis, and an outer surface. An outer surface of the distal body portion can define, along at least a portion of the length, at least one drill string engagement portion having a first radial distance from the central axis of the distal body portion. The drill string engagement portion(s) can be configured to bias against and slide along an inner surface of a drill string. At least one recessed portion can be inwardly spaced from said first radial distance from the central axis. The recessed portion(s) can each be configured to cooperate with the inner surface of the drill string to define a respective flow path along the length of the distal body portion.

  • Publication number: 20230358103
Abstract: A drill bit having a central axis can comprise a shank defining an inner bore and a crown having a cutting face. The crown can define an outer operative circumference. The crown can comprise a core-receiving slot in communication with the inner bore of the shank. One or more peripheral slots can be in communication with the inner bore of the shank. The crown can comprise one or more face channels that are in communication with the core-receiving slot and a respective peripheral slot. A base portion can be positioned within the core-receiving slot. The base portion can define a breaking surface. The peripheral slots can be configured to receive fluid moving in a distal direction toward the cutting face of the crown. The face channels can be configured to deliver fluid from the respective peripheral slot to the core-receiving slot.

  • Publication number: 20230175334
Abstract: A drill bit can be configured to form core segments during drilling. The drill bit can have having a central axis and a shank defining an inner bore. A crown can be coupled to the shank. The crown can define a cutting face and a core receiving slot that extends inwardly into the crown from the cutting face. The crown can define an inner operative circumference. A core break structure can be disposed within the shank. The core break structure can define a core break surface that extends inwardly toward the central axis and intersects an imaginary 3D projection of the inner circumference projected along the central axis.
