  • Patent number: 4955774
Abstract: A bale accumulator includes a base module having a table for receiving a plurality of bales thereon, a bale transfer module for accumulating the bales received on the table into a parcel thereof, and a bale turning module for individually turning each bale received on the table through substantially 90.degree. about its longitudinal axis. The bale transfer and the bale turning modules are independently attachable to and detachable from the base module. The accumulator may also comprise a bale dumping module for dumping the parcel of bales accumulated on the table and an extension module for extending the width dimension of the table. The bale dumping module and the extension module are attachable to and detachable from the base module independently of the bale transfer and bale turning modules.

  • Patent number: 4930410
Abstract: A rectangular baler has a density control for controlling the density to which crop material is compacted by a cyclically operating plunger, and a cyclically operating tying mechanism for tying loops of binding material around successive lengths of the compacted crop material to form bales. In order for the tying mechanism to function properly the binding material must slide between a tied bale and the crop material being compacted against the tied bale. If the sliding friction is too great, the binding material breaks or is pulled free of the tying mechanism thus resulting in failure of the tying process. To reduce the sliding friction, the compaction density is reduced for an interval of time following each cycle of the tying mechanism. The interval of time may be tolled by counting a number of plunger cycles immediately following a cycle of the tying mechanism, the density control being set for reduced compaction density until the number of plunger cycles has been counted.

Abstract: A rectangular baler has a density control for controlling the density to which crop material is compacted in a bale case by a cyclically operating plunger, and a cyclically operating tying mechanism for typing loops of binding material around successive lengths of the compacted crop material to form bales. In order for the tying mechanism to function properly the binding material must slide between a tied bale and the crop material being compacted against the tied bale. To reduce the sliding friction, the density to which the crop material is compacted is reduced for an interval of time following each cycle of the tying mechanism. The interval of time is controlled by the rate at which crop material enters the bale case following a cycle of the tying mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4911491
Abstract: Bale handling apparatus comprises a main frame including transverse supports and devices mounted on the main frame for picking up bales. These bale pick-up devices comprise a plurality of substantially identical modules which are transversely adjustably mounted on the transverse supports of the main frame so that the number and position of the modules can be varied. The bale pick-up devices each have movable tines which, in an operative position, engage a bale and, in an inoperative position, are retracted clear of a bale, and actuators associated with each respective bale pick-up device operable to move the movable tines thereof to and from the operative position. The actuators of the respective bale pick-up devices are connectable in parallel to a common drive and releasable locking devices are associated with the movable tines of each bale pick-up device for locking the movable tines in the inoperative position.

  • Patent number: 4862684
Abstract: An agricultural baler comprises a bale case having an inlet opening in one side wall thereof; a plunger mounted for reciprocation within the bale case and back-and-forth across the inlet opening; a feeder duct communicating at one end with the inlet opening in the bale case and curving forwardly therefrom; the feeder duct comprising a pair of curved opposed wall means of which is movable relative to the other; and feeder means cooperable with the feeder duct to accumulate a charge of crop material therein and then stuff that charge into the bale case. The movable wall means is movable relative to the other wall means along substantially its entire length such that one cross sectional dimension of the feeder duct is variable along substantially the entire length of said feeder duct to ensure that, in use and as a charge of crop material is being accumulated in the feeder duct, said opposed wall means generally maintain contact with said crop material.

  • Patent number: 4750418
Abstract: A baler comprises a bale chamber having at least one wall movable generally laterally of the bale chamber to vary the cross-sectional area thereof and hydraulic actuator means operable to move the laterally movable bale chamber wall. The baler further comprises hydraulic sensor means coupled to, and operable to sense the load on, the movable wall of the bale chamber and to control the actuator means when that load exceeds a predetermined value, whereby the cross-sectional area of the bale chamber is increased to relieve said load. This allows the baler to produce bales of substantially constant density irrespective of varying crop conditions.

  • Patent number: 4710086
Abstract: A bale accumulator is provided for use in conjunction with a baler from which, during operation, bales successively are discharged. The accumulator comprises a bale receiving table movable between a home position for receiving a bale from the baler and a bale transfer position. A loadbed is disposed to receive bales from the bale receiving table and to accumulate a plurality of bales thereon. The bale receiving table is pivotally mounted on a shuttle mechanism which itself is movable along a transverse linear path between retracted and extended positions. When the bale receiving table is in its home position, it is located in a lower position with the shuttle mechanism assuming its retracted position. In this condition the bale receiving table is disposed at least partially vertically underneath the loadbed. Positioning means are provided for moving the receiving table from its home position underneath the loadbed to its bale transfer position generally alongside and at the level of the loadbed.

  • Patent number: 4503762
Abstract: In a baler having a plunger reciprocating in a bale case and knotters for tying strands of twine around bales, two trip mechanisms are provided for automatic actuation of the knotters. One trip mechanism is capable of preventing operation of the knotters until a bale of desired length is formed. The other trip mechanism is capable of preventing operation of the knotters unless the plunger is moving in a direction in the bale case to compress crop material into bales.

  • Patent number: 4489648
Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a baler for changing the positions of the side rails and the top rail of a bale case to adjust bale density. The mechanism includes side members pivotally connected to the side rails and a top member secured to the top rail. Lever members are pivotally connected to the side members and also engage the top member. A hydraulic cylinder unit is connected between the lever members to move the lever members toward each other. This causes the side members to be pivoted toward each other thereby moving the side rails toward each other to reduce the width of the baling chamber. The movement of the lever members toward each other also causes the top member to be moved downward thereby moving the top rail downward to reduce the height of the baling chamber.
