  • Publication number: 20140120929
Abstract: A method and system for providing CoMP assistance in a wireless communication network are disclosed. In one embodiment a cooperating base station receives a CoMP assistance request from a serving base station. The CoMP assistance request is a request for assistance to decode a first transmission from a UE. The cooperating base station receives the first transmission from the UE. The first transmission from the UE is received at the cooperating base station at one of a time before receiving the CoMP assistance request and a time after receiving the CoMP assistance request. The cooperating base station determines a CoMP payload in response to the CoMP assistance request. The CoMP payload is based on the received first transmission from the UE. The CoMP payload is forwarded to the serving base station after the serving base station determines that the first transmission from the UE is received by the serving base station with error.

  • Publication number: 20140119276
Abstract: The base stations in a coordinating set, i.e., CoMP set, implement distributed V-MIMO processing to decode uplink signals transmitted from multiple user terminals over the same time and frequency resources. Each base station uses the extrinsic information received from its coordinating base stations to facilitate demodulation and decoding. In the event that one of the base stations successfully decodes an uplink signal, it may provide the decoded data to the other coordinating base stations in the coordinating set. In this case, the coordinating base stations do not need to decode the uplink signal. Even if the uplink signal is not successfully decoded, the demodulated data received from the coordinating base station increases the likelihood of successfully decoding uplink signal in the next iteration of a HARQ process.

  • Publication number: 20140051471
Abstract: A method and system for adaptive coordinated multipoint support in a wireless communication system are disclosed. According to one aspect, the invention provides an uplink coordinated multipoint, CoMP, method. A CoMP request is received at a cooperating base station from a serving base station. The CoMP request specifies a first CoMP payload type. Responsive to receiving the CoMP request, a second type of CoMP payload to provide to the serving base station is provided. The second type of CoMP payload is determined based at least in part on resource usage. The cooperating base station provides a CoMP payload of the determined second CoMP payload type to the serving base station.

  • Publication number: 20130322275
Abstract: Methods and systems for centralizing transport and control, T&C, functions for management of a plurality of enhanced nodeBs, eNBS, and their associated cells are disclosed. According to one aspect, the invention provides a method that includes providing the T&C functions associated with each of the plurality of eNBs at at least one T&C pool entity. Mobility events associated with the plurality of the eNBs are coordinated between the at least one T&C pool entity using an interface. Available resources of each of a plurality of links of a shared network connecting the plurality of eNBs and the at least one T&C pool entity are determined. Control signaling and data packets between the plurality of eNBs and the at least one T&C pool entity are transmitted using a protocol across the shared network to facilitate communication between eNBs and user equipment.

  • Publication number: 20130148588
Abstract: A method and system for allocating information flows of information to communication resources are disclosed. In one embodiment, separate flows of information in data received from a communication network are identified. Each separate information flow is associated with a component carrier for the duration of the information flow, and each component carrier is associated with a scheduler.

  • Publication number: 20130148587
Abstract: A method for integrating functions of a cellular radio controller and a microwave backhaul radio controller are disclosed. In some embodiments a cellular baseband unit is coupled to a cellular radio unit and a microwave backhaul radio unit. The cellular baseband unit includes a digital signal processor that performs modulation, demodulation and scheduling for both the cellular radio signals and the microwave backhaul radio signals.

  • Patent number: 8457642
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for determining a set of cooperating cells for a mobile terminal in a mobile communication network for CoMP transmission or reception. A cell map is stored in memory of serving base station. The cell map associates one or more coordinating areas within the serving cell with corresponding sets of neighboring cells. To determine the set of cooperating cells for a given mobile terminal within a serving cell, the serving base station determines the current location of the mobile terminal. The current location of the mobile terminal is compared to the cell map stored in memory to determine the coordinating set for the mobile terminal.

  • Publication number: 20130055275
Abstract: A method and system for prioritized baseband processing in a wireless communication network is disclosed. Parameters affecting processing times for performing tasks associated with different user equipments are evaluated and the tasks are prioritized based on the evaluation. Each task is performed by the baseband processor at a time that is based on the priority assigned to the task.

  • Publication number: 20130028178
Abstract: A method for providing a radio architecture for a long term evolution (LTE) communication system is disclosed. According to one aspect, a radio provides power pooling and direct up-conversion of signals to be transmitted. Power pooling is provided by adjusting the gain and phase of each of a plurality of carrier signals in a digital matrix based on feedback signals received from an analog matrix, such that the output signals are coupled to one or more selected radio output ports. Direct up-conversion is achieved by up-sampling and filtering the carrier signals to be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20120294244
Abstract: In an OFDM system, frequency domain processing is carried out by the control node. The frequency domain data is scrambled and transmitted over a packet-based interface to a transmitting node. The transmitting node unscrambles the frequency domain data and converts the frequency domain data to time domain data. The time domain data is used to modulate an RF carrier to generate a transmit signal for transmission over a wireless communication link to one or more mobile terminals.

  • Publication number: 20120184218
Abstract: Embodiments herein provide reduced backhaul bandwidth requirements for Coordinated Multi-Point reception of an uplink signal. A cooperating base station receive and demodulates the uplink signal to produce soft output values that each indicate the value of a corresponding information symbol in the uplink signal and the level of certainty in that symbol value. The cooperating base station then selectively sends particular ones of the soft output values to a serving base station over a backhaul communication link based on whether or not the level of certainty indicated by each soft output value exceeds a certainty threshold. The serving base station likewise receives and demodulates the uplink signal to produce its own soft output values. The serving base station then combines respective ones of the soft output values it received from the cooperating base station and the soft output values it produced itself that are associated with the same information symbol.
