Patent number: 7263753Abstract: A pulling head includes a sleeve which threadably engages a sleeve adapter. A collet is threadably engaged with a drawbar adapter, and the collet and drawbar adapter are disposed and slidable in the sleeve. A set of jaws is disposed in the collet, and a jaw follower is disposed in the collet and contacts the jaws. A spring retainer is disposed in the collet, and engages two springs. Specifically, a first spring is disposed between the drawbar adapter and the spring retainer, and a second spring is disposed between the spring retainer and the jaw follower. The first spring has a higher rating than does the second spring. While the first spring is configured to accommodate inertia loading, the second spring is configured to urge the jaws closed yet be relatively easily overcome by the insertion of mandrels of different diameters.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2005Date of Patent: September 4, 2007Assignee: SPS Technologies, LLCInventor: Ahmed A. Patent number: 6092964Abstract: A drill assembly for facilitating the removal of a rivet from a workpiece. The drill assembly includes a cutter housing which has an end portion that defines a recess for receiving a head of the rivet. The cutter housing also has a channel for receiving a cutter, and the channel communicates with the recess for cutting a notch in the head of the rivet. A longitudinal axis of the channel is offset from a longitudinal axis of the rivet when the head of the rivet is positioned in the recess defined by the end portion of the cutter housing.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1998Date of Patent: July 25, 2000Assignee: Textron Inc.Inventors: Ahmed A. Patent number: 5933915Abstract: A door stopper that is mounted directly to a door knob or a door handle of a door is disclosed. The door stopper is preferably made as a single piece from an elastomeric material so that it can easily slip over and substantially conform to the shape of various types of door knobs and door handles. The door stopper comprises a sleeve that fits over the door knob and a cushion extending outwardly from the door knob to cushion the impact of the door knob against a wall or other surface. Alternatively, a pair of inwardly tapered fingers may be used instead of a sleeve to secure the door stopper to a door handle.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Ahmed El DessoukyInventors: Ahmed El Dessouky, Amani El Dessouky

Patent number: 5425164Abstract: A light-weight and compact hand actuated hydraulic tool for the setting of fasteners having a sleeve and stem is disclosed. The tool comprises a housing, sleeve engaging nose piece connected to a piston which is slidable in the housing, a fluid reservoir, hand-operated pump lines, and a drawbolt which has stem gripping jaws connected thereto. The stem of a fastener is gripped by the jaws, and the sleeve of the fastener is engaged by the nose piece. In an initial stage, a pump plunger compresses liquid in first and second chambers into a piston chamber, which affects movement of the housing and drawbolt in relation to the piston, pulling the stem in relation to the sleeve.Type: GrantFiled: September 1, 1993Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Assignee: Textron Inc.Inventor: Ahmed A. Patent number: 5357666Abstract: An apparatus and method for quickly and easily disengaging and re-engaging a fastener installation tool head from a fastener installation tool body. A novel fastener installation tool head quick disconnect assembly is provided, consisting in a preferred arrangement of a sleeve assembly and an adapter housing assembly. The adapter housing assembly is rigidly attached to the fastener installation tool body and the sleeve assembly is attached to the adapter housing assembly via a quick-disconnect latching mechanism on the adapter housing assembly. To remove the sleeve assembly from the adapter housing assembly the operator simply translates the latching mechanism rearwardly, rotates the sleeve assembly 60.degree. to align an internal and an external set of lugs and grooves on the assemblies, and pulls the sleeve assembly forward disengage the sleeve assembly from the adapter housing assembly.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 1993Date of Patent: October 25, 1994Assignee: Textron Inc.Inventors: Ahmed A. El Dessouky, Michael A. Kleyman

Patent number: 5215416Abstract: A drilling tool having a cutter for drilling a hole in a workpiece is disclosed. The tool has a special peck drilling mechanism that controls the advancement and retraction of a cutter such that the cutter is advanced into the workpiece a short distance and then withdrawn. The peck drilling mechanism enables this cycle of advancing and then withdrawing the cutter to be repeated until the cutter bore a hole in the workpiece to the desired depth. Cycling of the tool in this manner is controlled by a clutch assembly and a retract mechanism that are pneumatically connected to each other and to the feed piston such that the number of cycles of the tool and the total depth of penetration by the cutter into the workpiece can be controlled.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1991Date of Patent: June 1, 1993Assignee: The Deutsch CompanyInventor: Ahmed El Dessouky

Patent number: 4776408Abstract: A pneumatic impact tool having a special cushioning assembly for cushioning the repeated recoil of a hammer piston and thereby providing substantially reduced tool vibration during use. The cushioning assembly includes an energy-dissipating damping sub-assembly and an energy-storing coil spring sub-assembly arranged in series with each other such that they operate simultaneously, yet independently, to cushion the hammer piston's rearward movement over a wide range of operating speeds.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 1987Date of Patent: October 11, 1988Assignee: Deutsch Fastener CorporationInventors: Robert D.
