  • Patent number: 10842596
Abstract: The present invention relates to a palatal and jaw expansion device comprising at least one screw, at least two blocks that are positioned on the screw so as to move on the screw, at least one stabilization rod whereon the blocks are seated, a movement mechanism disposed at the center of the screw and an arm that has a fixed end fixed to the movement mechanism perpendicularly to the horizontal axis where the screw extends and a free end and hat, when force is applied on the free end, rotates the movement mechanism whereon the arm is fixed and the screw around the horizontal axis where the screw extends, enabling the blocks to move on the screw.

  • Patent number: 7780445
Abstract: The present invention embodies to a palatal expansion device that includes one or more stabilizers attached to the blocks; a ratchet that engages the screw; and a built-in activator that communicates with the ratchet. This design allows essentially unidirectional rotation of the screw. The ratchet system embodies a pin/pocket arrangement, or a ratchet wheel/spring arrangement. The present invention involves kits and methods for expanding the maxillary arch or mandible using the palatal expansion devices of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 7121824
Abstract: A facebow which overcomes the adverse effects and limitations of current designs by rotating the maxilla in a downward and forward direction, which assists in correcting anterior open bites. This is accomplished by a design that produces forces above the center of resistance of the maxilla and parallel to the Frankfurt horizontal plane. The extra-oral headgear design is characterized by providing two independent adjustments (forehead width and horizontal/vertical dimensions) that allow the appliance to be customized to each patient. In particular, the two independent adjustments are provided by a fully adjustable forehead pad and bilateral adjustable blocks on opposite sides of the facebow extra-oral frame to provide horizontal and vertical adjustments.

  • Patent number: 7074036
Abstract: The present invention relates to a palatal expansion device that has a screw having one or more activation arms wherein the screw connects two blocks, each block having an opening for receiving the screw; a stabilizer attached to the blocks; and a spring extension positioned opposite the activation arms, wherein the spring extension is attached to the stabilizer. The present invention involves methods for expanding the maxillary arch, and kits including the device.

  • Patent number: 6976838
Abstract: A face bow and protraction headgear to correct the anterior open bite in dentally Class III open bite cases. The appliance consists of a face bow and forehead pad. The face bow has intraoral and extraoral components custom made individually for each patient. The intraoral bow is inserted from the distal openings of tubes soldered to the extraoral face bow. The extraoral face bow extends backward to the front of the ear then turns upward and ends at the level of the hooks on the forehead pad. Only the forehead is used as anchorage unit. On both sides of the pad, adjustable wire hooks are placed which allow maintaining the distance from the forehead pad hooks to the face bow hooks. Heavy elastics are attached in between the hooks of the face bow and the hooks on the forehead pad.

  • Patent number: 6626665
Abstract: For maxillary molar distalization a newly developed maxillary molar distalization appliance is introduced. Maxillary first molars and first premolars were banded. On the palatal side of the Class II first molar bands 0.45 inch diameter tubes were soldered. First premolar band were attached with 1.1 mm in diameter s.s. retaining wires to a wide acrylic Nance button. The acrylic button also included an anterior bit plane. The purpose of creating an anterior bit plane was to disocclude the posterior teeth, enhance the molar distalization and correct the anterior deep bit. On the palatal side of molars 0.9 mm in diameter s.s. wires were embedded into the acrylic about 5 mm apical to the gingival margin of the first molars, which passed through the tube and oriented parallel to the occlusal plane. This force system would allow applying consistent force at the level of center of resistance of the first molars.
