Patent number: 8220021Abstract: A television viewer interface system provides a viewer interface that allows the viewer to access different functions of a system. A highlight bar is responsive to the user's commands and is used to indicate the current menu item that can be selected by the user. Information is presented in a successive disclosure format where the user navigates through menus by moving the highlight bar to the right to obtain more information or to the left to see less information and return to the previous location. The background colors of each set of menus remains consistent throughout the user's experience such that the user intuitively knows what menu area he is in through the color cues. The invention provides indicators that tell the user that more information is available in a particular direction for a menu item.Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 2004Date of Patent: July 10, 2012Assignee: TiVo Inc.Inventors: Howard Look, Robert Vallone, David Avraham Brown, Karen Bedard, Wijnand Van Stam, Ain McKendrick

Publication number: 20120096355Abstract: A multimedia visual progress indication system that provides a cache bar that is overlaid onto the program material or displayed on a dedicated display. A cache bar indicates the length of a recording session or the length of stored program material and expands to the right when material is being recorded. Index and/or bookmark indicators are displayed next to the cache bar. A position indicator moves within the cache bar and tells the user visually where his current position is within the program material. Numeric time or counter mark of the current position is displayed in the vicinity of the cache bar. The trick play bar and its associated components are displayed for a predetermined time period.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 22, 2011Publication date: April 19, 2012Inventors: Robert Vallone, Howard Look, Ain McKendrick

Publication number: 20080320172Abstract: A method and system for synchronizing two computer systems supporting multiple synchronization techniques is described. In one example system, a portable computer system is loaded with synchronization transport modules. In application on the portable computer system is executed causing the application to automatically recognize the synchronization transport modules. The portable computer system receives a selection corresponding to one of the two synchronization transport modules. The selection could be from a user and would indicate that the user prefers to synchronize with the second computer system using a particular method of external communication. After the selection, the portable computer system synchronizes with the other computer system using the selected method of external communication.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 4, 2008Publication date: December 25, 2008Inventors: Vitaly Kruglikov, Roger Flores, Rob Haitani, Monty Boyer, Ron Marianetti, Ain McKendrick, Art Lamb

Publication number: 20070281692Abstract: A device for presenting content to a user comprises a connection for receiving content over a wireless communications network associated with a content provider and a display or other user interface means for presenting the content to the user. The wireless communications network can be an 802.11-based communications network. The content provider determines that the device is within a range of the wireless communications network and authenticates the device for the receipt of content. If the device is authenticated, the content provider transmits the content to the device. In one embodiment, the content provider comprises a merchant and the content comprises an electronic coupon that the device user can redeem at a locale of the merchant.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2007Publication date: December 6, 2007Applicant: ZING SYSTEMS, INC.Inventors: Timothy Bucher, Ain McKendrick, Mark Andrew Ross

Publication number: 20050251750Abstract: A television viewer interface system allows a viewer to schedule recordings of program material. The system determines if any conflicts exist with the viewer's recording selection and any previously scheduled recordings. If any conflicts are discovered, the system displays a conflict warning to the viewer indicating that a scheduling conflict exists with the viewer's recording selection. The conflict warning allows the user to cancel a scheduled recording. The system displays a list of scheduled recordings to the viewer as a list of programs that the system will record on a particular day or all of the scheduled recordings can also be displayed in a scrollable list.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2004Publication date: November 10, 2005Inventors: Robert Vallone, Howard Look, David Brown, Karen Bedard, Wijnand Van Stam, Ain McKendrick

Publication number: 20050156889Abstract: A device for providing user input to a computer includes a base member with a tracking sensor. A vertically oriented pistol grip member is disposed at an aft portion of the base member and extends upward therefrom. A pistol barrel member extends forward from an upper portion of the pistol grip member. The counterweight is disposed toward the aft portion of the base member so as to counterbalance a weight of the pistol barrel member and a weight of the pistol grip member. The counterweight can also provide a stabilizing force when the user holds and operates the pistol grip member.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 5, 2004Publication date: July 21, 2005Applicant: MonsterGecko, LLCInventors: Jeff Ma, Ain McKendrick, Robert Yuan
