Abstract: The present invention provides a handheld device and method for treating an artery having atherosclerosis. The handheld device for treating an artery comprises a handle for holding the device, an effector adapted to the handle for carrying out the treatment on the arteries, said effector having an ablating means, and a feedback controller for controlling process of treatment. Advantageously, the device allows for treating the artery without invasion of the blood vessel lumen, without damaging the tunica intima of the artery, and more importantly, the device can be used for treating early and mid-stage plaque formation in the arterial wall, which goes undetected in routine angiography.

Abstract: The present invention provides a system and method for treating artery having atherosclerosis. The system comprises a flexible device for wrapping around the diseased artery, at least an imaging fiber and/or an ablation fiber removably adapted on the inner side of the flexible device for imaging and/or treating the said artery and a controller for controlling the process of imaging or treatment on the said artery.

Abstract: The present invetion provides a method and apparatus for elimination of atherosclerosis from an artery. According to the present invetion the diseased artery is approached from external side and ablate is approached in such a way that incision/cut pass through tunica adventitia and tunica media of the diseased artery and a fibrous capsule of the atherselerosis. On ablation/incision, the contents plaques are exposed to the natural defense of the body and are destroyed by the natural defense system. The plaque escaping out of the artery on the external surface of the artery may be wiped or washed away with saline during or after the ablation procedure. Then, natural healing of artery is allowed which eliminates atherosclerosis thoroughly.
