  • Patent number: 5958710
Abstract: This invention relates to a novel estrogen receptor-related nuclear receptor, hereinafter termed "ER.beta." having the amino acid sequence of FIGS. 1, 13A or 14A or substantially the same ambino acid sequence as the amino acid sequence shown in FIGS. 1, 13A or 13B or an amino acid sequence functionally similar to that sequence. The invention also relates to DNA sequences encoding the receptor. The receptor may be useful in isolating molecules for the treatment of disorders such as prostate cancer, benign prostatic hyperplasia, osteoporosis or cardiovascular disorders and in the testing of substances for estrogenic and other hormonal effects.

  • Patent number: 5746958
Abstract: A method is disclosed for producing a wood-thermoplastic composite material using a high bulk density feedstock. The feedstock is formed by feeding a wood-thermoplastic mixture to a pellet mill where the bulk density thereof is increased by a significant amount. The pelletized feedstock may be stored for later formation into a finished product and may be blended as necessary to maintain product quality. The feedstock is easy to handle and transport and provides a manufacturer with a large degree of flexibility and control over the manufacturing process.

  • Patent number: 4445558
Abstract: In order to enable a satisfactory degree of barking when removing the limbs and bark from wood in a barking drum having internally a plurality of log lifters and a plurality of slots arranged around and along the drum for the discharging of waste material freed, said drum comprising two axially aligned drum halves each comprising a main treatment section with a transition section located between them, said transition section is provided with a separating section comprising an arresting surface for the waste material and an annular outlet opening cooperating with the arresting surface and arranged in the dividing plane between the two drum halves, for discharging limbs and bark caught by the arresting surface.

  • Patent number: 4369823
Abstract: In order to effect removal of both limbs and bark from wood, such as trimmings or trees removed in thinning, with satisfactory results in a barking drum, the drum proper comprises a cylindrical pretreatment section of large diameter, a tapering transition section and a cylindrical final treatment section of smaller diameter. In the pretreatment section, which has a larger number of log lifters, an intensive treatment of the bundle takes place, so that the stems of the trees are exposed while branches and twigs are crushed. In the transition section, which has only half the number of log lifters, the tumbling motion of the wood subsides and a change-over takes place to parallel barking, which is concluded in the final treatment section, where the number of log lifters is again increased, suitably up to the original number. The pretreatment section is preferably preceded by an infeed section with infeed means arranged on the inside for quick feeding-in of the bundle of trees into the pretreatment section.

  • Patent number: 4157069
Abstract: A method and device for the initiating of a number of electrical detonators by a blasting machine of the type in which a capacitor is charged, the level of the charge being measured by level-sensing units and detonators are initiating by the electrical energy stored in the capacitor by firing after the charge level has reached a given level. The charge level of the capacitor is limited to a range which takes into account the variations of the load between different initiation moments such that the current impulse provided to each detonator assumes a value between a minimum and maximum limit. The limits for each individual load within the operating range of the apparatus is regulated in accordance with the electrical and physical characteristics of the detonators so that safe initiation and a disburance-free firing process are obtained.

  • Patent number: 4099914
Abstract: Method and apparatus to internally sterilize a tube of packing material in which a sterile product is being introduced. The sterilizing agent is introduced into the tube in liquid form wherein it is vaporized. When it is vaporized, it rises upwardly in the tube of packing material and condenses on the interior surface of the tube of material.

  • Patent number: 4046310
Abstract: A nestable, stackable container comprised of a tray preferably erected from carton blank and having cut-away portions defined at the ends thereof, a tray of plastic film is formed within the carton tray through a deep drawn process in which the upper end of the film tray is folded over the upper edge of the carton tray. The film tray is extended outwardly through the cut-away end portions to form a pair of stacking lips which serve to prevent nested containers from becoming wedged into one another.
