  • Patent number: 7551318
Abstract: The gray axis is adjusted such that an optimal representation can be achieved for low saturation colors close to the gray axis. A test pattern including a plurality of images, which have different color tones is printed, and a user selects a most desirable image. The gray axis of an image recording system is adjusted depending on which image is selected. Each of the plurality of images of the test pattern is a photographic color image represented mainly by low saturation colors close to achromatic colors along the gray axis. In accordance with the selected image, the gradation adjustment is performed for each ink color of the image recording system thereby adjusting the gray axis and the tone of colors close to the gray axis.

  • Patent number: 7357483
Abstract: The ink jet printing apparatus forms an image on a print medium with the following two operations. The printing operation makes a print head perform scan motions in a predetermined direction on the print medium, the print head having an array of nozzle rows corresponding to the required number of ink colors, each scan motion involving the ink being ejected from nozzles onto the print medium. The print medium feeding operation moves the print medium and the print head relative to each other a predetermined amount in a direction different from a direction of the scan motion between the scan motions. In a print mode using a small number of ink colors employed for printing, unidirectional printing is performed such that the nozzle row of a black ink to be ejected reaches a print start position when amplitude of vibration of the print head is a predetermined amount or less.

  • Publication number: 20080055351
Abstract: In a recording medium selecting step, a recording medium on which an image is to be formed is selected from among a plurality of recording media having unique color tones. In a mode setting step, it is determined whether the image is to be output in a monochrome mode. In a signal converting step, a luminance signal corresponding to the image is converted into a density signal when the monochrome mode is set in the mode setting step. In a forming step, an image is formed on the recording medium selected in the recording medium selecting step according to the density signal. The signal converting step is controlled so that a color tone of an intermediate-density portion of the image formed on the recording medium is set to be near a*=A in the a*b* plane of the CIE-L*a*b* space, where A is a constant.

  • Patent number: 7320510
Abstract: A high quality gray scale (monochrome) image in which influences of “recorded color deviation” and “color transition” are suppressed is formed even in the case of a slightly uneven discharge amount. When a gray scale (monochrome) mode is set, in the entire range of a luminance signal, density signals corresponding to achromatic dots and small chromatic dots respectively are generated based on the luminance signal so that the density signal corresponding to the achromatic dots has a greater value than that of the density signal corresponding to the small chromatic dots. Accordingly, even a slight “recorded color deviation” that occurs when the achromatic dots are recorded can be corrected by the small chromatic dots having a hue opposite to the direction of color deviation, and a high quality gray scale image in which influences of “recorded color deviation” and “color transition” are suppressed can be formed.

The apparatus is provided with a plurality of print modes, each using a different number of colors of ink for printing. • Publication number: 20070064043
Abstract: In a multi-valued printer that uses discontinuous index patterns, if a tone correction table is generated using sampled density patches, a table which is different from a table to be obtained and has no inflection point is obtained, and the print density characteristics after tone correction suffer discontinuity. To solve this problem, an output gamma table used to output measurement patches is set to linearly correct the printer print characteristics. Patches are output and their densities are measured. A reverse table of a “signal value—density” table is generated, and is smoothed using a recursive curve. The smoothed reverse table is finely adjusted to generate an intermediate output gamma table. The generated table undergoes index component correction, thus generating a tone correction table.

  • Publication number: 20070061025
Abstract: A data recording method is disclosed which includes the steps of: firstly recording audio data onto a temporary storage medium following retrieval of the audio data from an external storage medium in response to an audio data import request; detecting whether a leading frame of the audio data held on the temporary storage medium references a preceding frame; and secondly recording the audio data held on the temporary storage medium to a storage medium in accordance with an outcome of the detecting step.

  • Publication number: 20060232799
Abstract: In an image processing for printing a monochrome image, color deviation can be suppressed to print a favorable monochrome image. Specifically, the printing of a monochrome image is performed by using black ink in all of a color reproduction region (color gamut) including a gray axis and regions other than the gray axis. This avoids the use of C, M, and Y for the expression of the monochrome image to suppress the color deviation due to slight imbalance among amounts of three colors of inks.

  • Publication number: 20060061785
Abstract: The color of magenta using newly developed magenta ink has characteristics L*?41, a*?82, and b*?24, and has differences ?L*?4, ?a*?0, and ?b*?26 from the conventional magenta ink, i.e., the lightness value is low, and the color difference b* assumes a very small value. When the color of red is reproduced using such new magenta ink, its lightness and saturation values are low, and subdued red is reproduced, i.e., a visually favorable color cannot be obtained. Hence, when a color included in a first color gamut is input, and the input color is converted into the color of a second color gamut narrower than the first color gamut, color conversion is made using a three-dimensional lookup table having red defined by. L*?45 to 50, a*?67 to 70, and b*?50 to 55.

  • Patent number: 7002705
Abstract: Disclosed is an image reading apparatus in which the band width for reading by one scanning is variable in accordance with the original size, the reading mode, etc. R, G, and B image data of the k-th band is successively read in one-band width to store image data R1, G1, and B1 of pixel coordinates X(n, m). Then, the original is fed so as to cause partial overlapping of the (k+1)-th band with a lower predetermined pixel region of the k-th band, and R, G, and B image data of the (k+1)-th band is read in one-band width to successively store image data R2, G2, and B2 of pixel coordinates X(n, m?). The image data obtained through overlap reading of the k-th band and the (k+1)-th band is averaged to calculate correction image data, which is transferred to a host computer along with along other image data which has not been averaged as read image data. And, it is possible to optimize reading time according to the kind of original, reading mode, etc., without involving a deterioration in image quality.

  • Publication number: 20050168495
Abstract: A high-quality monochrome photographic image is formed using a high-resolution color ink-jet recording apparatus. When a monochrome mode is selected, density signals are produced such that they include at least one density signal corresponding to a chromatic color material and a density signal corresponding to an achromatic color material and having a value greater than the value of the at least one density signal corresponding to the chromatic color material. A slight recorded color deviation that can occur when the achromatic color material is recorded on a recording medium is compensated for by adding a small amount of chromatic color material having a hue which cancels out the recorded color deviation. Thus, a high-quality gray scale image is obtained without having recorded color deviation or color transition.
