  • Patent number: 9593670
Abstract: A method for reducing noise generated by a wind turbine includes measuring a reference temperature of the wind turbine. The method also includes regulating a trailing edge surface temperature of a trailing edge portion of a rotor blade attached to the wind turbine. In addition, the method includes measuring the trailing edge surface temperature. Further, the method includes regulating the trailing edge surface temperature to maintain a predetermined temperature differential between the reference temperature and the trailing edge surface temperature.

  • Publication number: 20130209216
Abstract: A turbomachine includes a housing including a fluid path, and a first stage arranged within the housing. The first stage includes a first plurality of airfoil members and a second plurality of airfoil members. A second stage is arranged within the housing relative to the first stage. The second stage includes a third plurality of airfoil members and a fourth plurality of airfoil members. A flow improvement system is associated with each of the first and second stages. The flow improvement system establishes a predetermined clocking of each of the first plurality of airfoil members relative to corresponding ones of each of the third plurality of airfoil members, and each of the second plurality of airfoil members relative to each of the fourth plurality of airfoil members. The predetermined clocking is configured and disposed to improve flow characteristics along the flow path.

  • Publication number: 20130205795
Abstract: A turbomachine includes a housing that defines a flow path, and a stage arranged within the housing. The stage includes a plurality of rotating airfoil members and a first plurality of stationary airfoil members. A second plurality of stationary airfoil members is arranged directly adjacent to the first plurality of stationary airfoil members. A flow improvement system is associated with each of the first and second pluralities of stationary airfoil members. The flow improvement system establishes a predetermined clocking of each of the first plurality of stationary airfoil members relative to each of the second plurality of stationary airfoil members to improve flow characteristics along the flow path.

  • Publication number: 20110268557
Abstract: A system and method for reducing the noise of an airfoil is provided. The airfoil includes a main portion including a leading edge and a trailing edge. The airfoil further comprises a noise attenuator coupled to the main portion and disposed proximate to at least a portion of the trailing edge. The noise attenuator has a chord length in the range of about 0.5 to about 5 times a trailing edge thickness and is fixed relative to the trailing edge. The airfoil can be a rotating blade deployed on a wind turbine. The airfoil can also be deployed on an aircraft as a fixed wing.
