Abstract: A reflection type liquid crystal display device of the present invention includes: a first substrate having a reflective electrode formed thereon; a second substrate having a transparent counter substrate and a color filter formed thereon; and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates, wherein the color filter includes a red color filter portion and a cyan color filter portion. The cyan color filter portion transmits light having a complementary color of a color of light transmitted through the red color filter portion. The light transmitted through the red color filter portion has a chromaticity (x, y) on the XYZ color system chromaticity diagram satisfying the following formulae at a 2.degree. viewing angle using a standard light source D.sub.65 :(0.038).sup.2 .ltoreq.(x-0.313).sup.2 +(25/4).multidot.(y-0.329).sup.2 .ltoreq.(0.178).sup.2 ;y.ltoreq.0.145x+0.236; andy.gtoreq.-0.233x+0.376.

Abstract: A color filter useful for a color liquid crystal display device, wherein an opaque metal layer is used as a light-shielding layer, and formed on a transparent substrate in a matrix form. A black photoresist layer is left unremoved on the light-shielding layer and color filter layers are formed thereover to fill the matrix spaces of the light-shielding layer. A method of manufacturing such a color filter by means of photolithography is also disclosed.

Abstract: A stream of water 18 from a nozzle 17 is laterally directed against a glass fiber strand bridge 16 formed between a loaded spool 5 and an empty spool 4 as a turntable 1 rotatably mounting the two spools is indexed 180.degree. to reverse the positions of the spools between standby and winding stations. The water discharge is synchronized with the turntable rotation, and cleanly severs the strand while in the wet state and winding continues on the empty spool while the loaded spool is removed and replaced with a new empty spool.
