    Abstract: A finisher for delivering sheets ejected from a copying machine to a plurality of bins and thereafter stapling the sheets stored in the bin. The bins are wholly moved upward and downward step by step, and every time a group of sheets have been delivered to the bins, the movement of the bins is changed from an upward movement to a downward movement and vise versa. Stapling operation by use of a stapler is carried out on a level one step upper than a level where the bins receive sheets. Sheets of an odd page are delivered to the bins while the bins are moved upward step by step, and sheets of an even page are delivered to the bins while the bins are moved downward step by step. After a last sheet is received by a bin, the bins are moved upward by one step to start stapling operation with sheets stored in the bin which has received the last sheet.

    Abstract: A plurality of double-faced originals in a series of pages are stacked on a tray with a first page faced upward. An original transport mechanism is arranged to transport a first sheet of original fed by a feed roller to an exposure position through an intermediate waiting position on a platen glass for image exposure of a first page. Then, the original transport mechanism forwards the first sheet of original to a reverse/discharge roller provided downstream side of a transport belt to invert the surface and reverse side of the original. Thereafter, the original is returned to the intermediate waiting position by the transport belt.

When a signal commanding an image forming operation is generated, the tray is moved to a proper position, where the upper surface of the tray or the upper surface of sheets stacked thereon is positioned below the sheet ejection portion with a specified space, and during the movement of the tray, the image forming operation is kept standing by. The tray is moved to the proper position when the volume of the sheet stack is varied during the image forming operation.
