  • Patent number: 5170442
Abstract: Character pattern transforming system providing a character pattern whose size can be reduced or enlarged with an optional scale factor includes a gray scale device providing a plurality of values per pixel for adjusting the gray scale associated with the character pattern. The system further includes a pixel positioning circuit for determining the position of each pixel of the reduced or enlarged character pattern and a pixel coloring circuit for determining which of the pixels in the reduced or enlarged character pattern is to be colored based on the gray scale data. The thickness of the vertical lines of the transformed character pattern can be adjusted following enlargement or reduction of the character pattern. A detector circuit identifies right angle corners of the original character pattern to ensure that such right angle corners are maintained in the transformed character pattern.

  • Patent number: 4652159
Abstract: A print timing circuit for a printer has a reciprocating carriage and at least one printing element mounted on the carriage. The print timing circuit includes a carriage controller for reciprocating the carriage and an encoder for detecting the speed of movement of the carriage and generating an encoder signal representative of the speed of movement of the carriage. An oscillator produces a print timing signal to control operation of the printing element. A frequency divider and comparator divides the encoder signal by N, where N is an integer. It also divides the print timing signal by M, where M is an integer. Then, it compares the phase relationship of the divided signals and provides an adjustment signal representative of the phase relationship of the divided signals to the oscillator.

  • Patent number: 4457639
Abstract: A motor control for a printer carriage using a DC motor includes a phase-locked loop speed control circuit having an encoder detecting motor speed, a reference oscillator, a phase comparator for detecting the phase difference between the encoder signal and oscillator output signal, and a switching circuit for voltage to be applied to the motor based upon the phase comparator output. Additionally, the motor control includes a feedback circuit having a low pass filter converting the phase comparator output signal into an analog speed signal, and a differentiating circuit converting the filter output signal into a quasi-acceleration signal. The feedback circuit effects frequency modulation of the reference oscillator using the output signal from the differentiating circuit. A speed setting switch means adjusts the selected rotational speed of the motor by changing the oscillator frequency.

  • Patent number: 4317090
Abstract: An electrical discharge occurs between the anode and the cathode and the active gas such as CO.sub.2 between the two electrodes is excited to provide a laser beam. The laser beam thus provided is reflected repeatedly by a pair of reflection mirrors. The reflected laser beam is amplified while passing through the space where the discharge occurs, thus providing the function of a gas laser oscillator. Although the amplification that occurs in the discharge zone between the electrodes, considerable laser beam absorption takes place in the space between the reflection mirrors and the electrodes. In this space, the amount of operating gas such as CO.sub.2 is reduced, or the space is evacuated. Alternatively, the space is cooled by causing the gas therein to flow. A reduction in so-called laser beam absorption function is provided.

  • Patent number: 4022169
Abstract: An ignition timing control member extends through the center of a first vacuum chamber having a central movable sleeve adapted to be contacted by a flange on the control member to limit movement thereof in a direction to advance the ignition timing. The first vacuum chamber is connected to be responsive to vacuum intensity at a first vacuum outlet communicating with the engine intake passage near the throttle valve and upstream therefrom. The control member is moved by vacuum intensity within a second vacuum chamber connected through a selector valve assembly to a second vacuum outlet connected to the engine intake passage downstream from the throttle valve.
