  • Patent number: 6593032
Abstract: A storage battery including an electrode and an electrolyte material, in which the electrode has a grid with a mesh area of about 50 mm2 or less and an active material provided on the grid. Accordingly, it is made possible to prevent a decrease in the negative electrode's conductivity due to a contraction of the negative electrode active material that takes place extensively when a cycle of charge and discharge is repeated particularly at high temperatures with a resulting remarkable improvement in cycle life characteristics of a lead-acid storage battery.

  • Patent number: 6579646
Abstract: A lead-acid storage battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode and an electrolyte material. The foregoing negative electrode has a first grid with a first grid geometry and a first active material provided on the above first grid. The foregoing positive electrode has a second grid with a second grid geometry and a second active material provided on the above second grid. A first mesh area of the foregoing first grid is smaller than a second mesh area of the foregoing second grid, thereby achieving an excellent high rate discharge cycle life.

  • Patent number: 6212744
Abstract: The apparatus comprises a reticulating machine (39) for simultaneously producing in metal sheet (2) of strip form a plurality of slits (67) disposed in a continuous and zigzag arrangement extending in the lengthwise direction thereof, and an expanding machine (40) for expanding in the lateral direction the metal sheet (2) in which slits (67) have been formed in order to produce a lozenge-shaped mesh configuration. The expanding machine (40) comprises two endless conveyor elements (44) disposed at the two lateral edges of the metal sheet (2), chuck members (47), a plurality of which are provided in an equally-spaced arrangement to the endless conveyor elements (44), and a center guide member (91) for conveying the metal sheet (2) while guiding the transverse central portion such that it is deflected to one side in the direction of thickness of the metal sheet (2).

  • Patent number: 5239735
Abstract: A method for manufacturing an expanded mesh sheet, includes the steps of: forming a plurality of slits on a strip at predetermined pitches to simultaneously form a plurality of strip-shaped lift portions and connecting portions for connecting the strip-shaped lift portions to each other in a lattice pattern, the slits each being intermittently formed in a longitudinal direction of the strip and the adjacent slits in a widthwise direction of the strip being shifted to each other in the longitudinal direction of the strip; and expanding the strip in the widthwise direction thereof. An apparatus for manufacturing the sheet, includes: a pair of rolls engaged to each other, each roll having a plurality of disk-shaped cutters; and a driving device for driving the rolls for rotation.

An apparatus for manufacturing the sheet, includes: a pair of rolls in coacting meshing engagement with each other, each roll having a plurality of disk-shaped cutters; and a driving device for rotating the rolls. Each cutter has cutting edge portions and reliefs on a periphery thereof at predetermined pitches.
