    Abstract: A cable that protects an object includes a sheath and a cylindrical reinforcement member disposed inside the sheath and that surrounds the object. The cylindrical reinforcement member has a first side edge and a second side edge that extend in a longitudinal direction. The cylindrical reinforcement member is formed of a cable reinforcement sheet including a first metal sheet and a second metal sheet joined to the first metal sheet. A portion of the first metal sheet overlaps a portion of the second metal sheet, and the overlapping portions define a joint portion where the first metal sheet and the second metal sheet are joined. The joint portion is inclined, from the second side edge to the first side edge, toward the first metal sheet.

    Abstract: Oligoguanylic acid inhibits the activity of Ribosome Recycling Factor (RRF), a soluble factor responsible for disassembly of the post-termination complex. RRF is essential for all bacteria because it is required for the recycling of spent ribosomes to initiate the translation of another mRNA into another polypeptide. As eukaryotic cytoplasmic protein synthesis does not require RRF, inhibitors of RRF will be efficacious as an anti-bacterial agent. The present invention provides oligoguanylic acid, sd-G4, or derivatives thereof, in particular, to serve as a lead compound for the development of novel anti-bacterial therapeutic agents.

    Abstract: Mutant plasmids of Rts1 and P1 are provided which permit for high copy numbers of the plasmid in host bacteria. The mutant plasmids also possess other improved characteristics, including the ability to coexist with other vectors in host bacteria, such as E. coli, the ability to control copy numbers, within the range of about 20 to 120, by the use of different host bacteria growth medium, and the ability to remove the plasmids from host bacteria by a simple shift in the bacteria growth temperature. These plasmids may also contain an additional nucleotide sequence, GH.sub.3, which confers increased temperature stability.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for displaying on a display screen the controlling circuit in a plant controlling system for controlling a plant by a controller using a microcomputer. The display screen is segmented into a software region and a hardware region. The software circuit which is realized by software is displayed in the software region, and the hardware circuit related to the software circuit is displayed in the hardware region. The information, which is plotted during the interactive process and is displayed in the software regions, is automatically translated into a program for controlling the controller. Operation data of the plant is also given on the display screen. Desired circuit elements of the software circuit may be selected to change parameters of the circuit elements. Maintenance work can be carried out while observing the indication on the display screen without any aid of documents such as the maintenance manual or the like.

    Abstract: Described is a method for inhibiting propagation of virus which comprises delivering one or more oligodeoxynucleotides or polydeoxynucleotides to a place where a messenger RNA (mRNA) generated on propagation of the virus exists, characterized in that the oligodeoxynucleotides or polydeoxynucleotides are identical in DNA sequence with a portion of the structure of DNA hybridizable to the mRNA, the structure being capable of hybridizing to the mRNA. Also described is an anti-viral agent which comprises an effective amount of one or more oligodeoxynucleotides or polydeoxynucleotides with a conventional liquid vehicle or excipient, characterized in that the oligodeoxynucleotides or polydeoxynucleotides are identical in DNA sequence with a portion of the structure of DNA hybridizable to an mRNA generated on propagation of the virus, the structure being capable of hybridizing to the mRNA. The method and the agent can widely be applied to the treatment of viral diseases.
