Patent number: 7422499Abstract: An operation device for a water-jet propulsion watercraft includes a first rotational shaft and a second rotational shaft. A first link can be rotatable about the first rotational shaft and a second link can be rotatable about the second rotational shaft. A bridging link can be configured to be capable of moving in parallel. A rotational end of the first link and a rotational end of the second link can be coupled such that an imaginary straight line connecting the rotational end to the first rotational shaft is parallel to an imaginary straight line connecting the rotational end to the second rotational shaft. A holding section can be provided on the bridging link to be held and operated by an operator.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 2006Date of Patent: September 9, 2008Assignee: Yamaha Marine Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Akira Nakatsuji

Publication number: 20080110385Abstract: A top side of a deck can have a generally flat shape. A pedestal-like operator's seat base can be disposed slightly rearwardly from a central part of the deck. On an upper part of the operator's seat base, an operator's seat, a passenger's seat and a handlebar can be provided. A cowl can form a front face of the operator's seat base and can have an air inlet for introducing ambient air therethrough into an engine room. The air inlet can be provided with a water separating structure for separating ambient water from the ambient air to prevent any entry of the water into the engine room. A handrail can be provided on an upper part of the operator's seat base. Rails can be provided in a front part of a peripheral edge of the deck. A container including a containing recess and a lid can be provided in a front part of the top side of the deck.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 15, 2007Publication date: May 15, 2008Applicant: YAMAHA MARINE KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: Akira Nakatsuji, Susumu Shibayama, Yoshiki Hirabara

Patent number: 6530336Abstract: A watercraft has a mid-deck storage compartment. The storage compartment is mounted between a forward portion of the seat and a control mast. The storage compartment inclines rearward and partially overhangs an access opening into an engine compartment that is disposed beneath the seat. A box that is detachably connected to a deck of the watercraft defines the compartment. A cup holder can be disposed within the compartment with storage areas being defined around the cup holder and any cup or can that might be secured by the cup holder. The compartment also expands laterally as it increases in depth.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2001Date of Patent: March 11, 2003Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Toshiaki Ibata, Kenichi Ootsuka, Akira Nakatsuji, Toshiyuki Hattori

Patent number: 6471558Abstract: A watercraft includes a ventilation system for ventilating the engine compartment and for providing air for induction into the watercraft engine. An air duct extends through the hull and communicates with the engine compartment. An induction box is attached to a deck of the hull and encloses a space around the air duct. The induction box is sized so that pressure pulses are dissipated within the box. A portion of an outer edge of the induction box is cut way, forming an opening through which air can flow. A cowling substantially covers the induction box. Another structural aspect includes a pair of air ducts, each having an associated induction box. An opening of one induction box is generally forwardly facing. An opening of the other induction box is generally rearwardly facing.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 2000Date of Patent: October 29, 2002Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Akira Nakatsuji, Satoshi Koyano, Tomoyoshi Koyanagai

Publication number: 20020053310Abstract: A watercraft has an improved bow hatch design. The bow hatch is disposed above a bow storage compartment and can be secured in a closed position. A locking mechanism is provided to maintain the bow hatch in a closed position. The locking mechanism comprises a separated actuator and locking member. Thus, the actuator can be disposed in a location convenient to the operator while the locking member can be mounted in an aesthetically acceptable location. The locking member is mounted rearward of the storage bin and the actuator is located to one side of the steering mast. In addition, a cable extends between the actuator and the locking member. Body panels of the watercraft substantially enclose the cable.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2001Publication date: May 9, 2002Inventors: Toshiaki Ibata, Kenichi Ootsuka, Akira Nakatsuji, Toshiyuki Hattori

Publication number: 20020055308Abstract: A watercraft has a number of fuel tank-related structures that are designed to either limit the inflow of water into the fuel tank or to enable the removal of water from the fuel tank. A water pool is formed in a portion of the fuel tank with a hose-accepting opening positioned above the water pool such that a siphon can be use to periodically remove water from the fuel supply. An embedded fastener construction also is used to limit the number of openings between the inside and outside of the fuel tank that would need to be sealed to prevent water inflow. A water repellant filter also is used to reduce the likelihood that water can enter the fuel system through a vapor/pressure relief system.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2001Publication date: May 9, 2002Inventors: Toshiaki Ibata, Kenichi Ootsuka, Akira Nakatsuji, Toshiyuki Hattori

Patent number: 6240866Abstract: A watercraft includes a plastic hull and a plastic deck which are joined together in a vertical direction. An upwardly extending portion on a part of the deck defines a seat platform at its top side. A straddle type seat for a rider is installed upon the seat platform. A discrete layer of vibration damping material is attached to opposed side walls of the seat platform. A discrete layer of auxiliary vibration damping material is attached to opposed side plates of the hull. The discrete layers of vibration damping material and the auxiliary vibration damping material damp vibrations from a propulsion apparatus, which propels the watercraft through water, and thus increasing the rider's comfort.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1999Date of Patent: June 5, 2001Assignee: Yamaha Hatsudoki Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Akira Nakatsuji
