  • Patent number: 8532903
Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine having at least one fuel injection valve for injecting fuel in a combustion chamber of the engine. A main injection and a pilot injection are performed through the at least one fuel injection valve, the pilot injection being performed before the main injection. A demand output of the engine is temporarily reduced upon a request for reducing an output of the engine. The output of the engine is reduced when the demand output is reduced. A control of the pilot injection corresponding to a state where the demand output is not reduced is performed when the demand output is reduced.

  • Patent number: 8033102
Abstract: An exhaust emission control device for an internal combustion engine, which is capable of terminating reduction control in proper timing when a NOx cleaning catalyst includes an auxiliary catalyst having an oxygen storage capacity, thereby making it possible to reduce exhaust emissions and improve fuel economy. The exhaust emission control device includes the NOx cleaning catalyst and an ECU. The NOx cleaning catalyst includes the auxiliary catalyst having an oxygen storage capacity. The ECU executes reduction control when predetermined conditions for executing the reduction control are satisfied. During execution of the reduction control, when exhaust gas temperature is higher than a predetermined value, if a second excess air ratio is lower than a predetermined value, the ECU determines that the reduction control should be terminated.

  • Patent number: 7758833
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for an internal combustion engine is provided with a NOx removing device and a particulate filter in an exhaust system. A temperature of the exhaust system is detected. A switching control is performed for alternately performing a process for removing sulfur oxide accumulated in said NOx removing device and a regeneration process for burning particulates trapped in said particulate filter, when it is determined to be necessary to perform at least one of the removal of the sulfur oxide in said NOx removing device and the regeneration of the particulate filter. The switching control is performed according to the detected exhaust system temperature.

  • Patent number: 7322341
Abstract: A control system for an internal combustion engine having a fuel injection valve. A fuel injection timing is determined according to the detected engine operating condition. A target ignition timing of the fuel is calculated using a plurality of maps that store the target ignition timings according to the engine operating condition and an actual ignition timing of the fuel is detected. An ignition delay of the actual ignition timing with respect to the target ignition timing is calculated. The cetane number of the fuel is estimated according to the calculated ignition delay. The map to be used in calculating the target ignition timing is switched according to the estimated cetane number.

  • Patent number: 7201138
Abstract: A control system used with an engine determines a fuel injection timing according to a detected engine operating condition and fuel injection is executed through a fuel injection valve. The target ignition timings of the fuel are set according to the detected engine operating condition and stored in a memory. An ignition delay of the actual ignition timing relative to the target ignition timing and a cetane number of the fuel are calculated. Control values of the recirculation amount of exhaust gases are set according to the detected engine operating condition and stored in the memory. The stored control value is retrieved and the recirculation amount of exhaust gases is controlled using the retrieved control value. A correction amount of the recirculation amount of exhaust gases is calculated according to the estimated cetane number and the recirculation amount of exhaust gases is controlled using the corrected control value.

  • Publication number: 20060254265
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying apparatus for an internal combustion engine, having a filter for trapping particulates in exhaust gases from the engine, is disclosed. A first particulate amount indicates an amount of particulates to be trapped by the filter and is calculated according to an operating condition of the engine. A second particulate amount indicates an amount of particulates trapped by the filter and is calculated according to a temperature of the filter when a filter regeneration of burning the particulates trapped by the filter is performed. The first particulate amount is compared with the second particulate amount, and a failure determination of the filter is performed according to a result of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 4347948
Abstract: The invention is related to a container for holding liquids such as a 200 liter removable head steel drum. The drum is provided with an inner bag which lines the inside periphery of the drum and thereby prevents the sealing or coating liquid contained or being dumped into the drum from contacting the inside periphery of the drum. The inner bag is disposable. Thus the drum can be recycled or regenerated for reuse at a reasonable cost. Further, the inner bag prevents the liquid from being contaminated by the foreign matter located on the drum inner surface. The inner bag is removably fitted to the inside of the drum by a fixing means. The fixing means is removably fitted to at least one annular recess normally present on the inside periphery of the drum with or without the presence of the inner bag disposed between the recess and the fixing means.
