  • Patent number: 8194004
Abstract: A plasma display driving method capable of displaying a vigorous image having enhanced maximum luminance and contrast. For this purpose, one field is divided into a plurality of sub-fields each including a sustain period. In the sustain period, the number of sustain pulses obtained by multiplying a proportionality factor by a brightness weight set for each of the sub-fields are applied to display electrode pairs to generate sustaining discharge in discharge cells having generated addressing discharge therein. Thus, the total number of the sustain pulses in one field period can be changed. When a predetermined image meeting predetermined conditions is displayed, the total number of the sustain pulses in one field period is made larger than those in the case where the other normal images are displayed.

  • Patent number: 7750871
Abstract: An image display method for allowing an image display device having a large number of pixels arrayed in a planar form to perform an image display by forming one field period from plural sub-fields for which luminance weights to be displayed are determined, and choosing plural luminances among displayable luminances as luminances for display by combining the luminance weights of the sub-fields, so that the respective pixels are controlled not to emit light or to emit light in each sub-field correspondingly to the luminances for display to be displayed. At least one threshold value is set, and when a pixel is allowed to emit light at a luminance for display at or higher than a first threshold value, which is the smallest threshold value, the pixel is controlled not to emit light constantly or to emit light constantly in a sub-field having the smallest luminance weight.

  • Patent number: 6542135
Abstract: The display device of the present invention is provided with a means (8) for setting the writing pulse width of the attentional light-emitting sub-field wider than the normal writing pulse width at all the gray scale levels in the case where at least two continuous non-light-emitting sub-fields possibly exist before the attentional light-emitting sub-field at a certain gray scale level among all the gray scale levels specified on the basis of the number Z of sub-fields and the weighting of the sub-fields. According to the display device of the present invention, the discharge for writing can be stably executed without reducing the number of sub-fields in one field.
