  • Patent number: 8366262
Abstract: A sheet feeder for transporting a sheet unreeled from a roll includes a feed roller to unreel the sheet from the roll, a registration roller to transport the sheet unreeled by the feed roller to the image forming unit, a pressure roller pressing against the registration roller, forming a registration nip together with the registration roller, a movable sheet guide to guide the sheet to the registration roller, disposed between the feed roller and the registration roller in a sheet conveyance path, a support member to movably support the movable sheet guide relative to an apparatus body in which the sheet feeder is disposed, and a bias member to bias the sheet guide toward the sheet. The movable sheet guide wraps more of the sheet around the registration roller as a degree of tension of the sheet increases by moving against a bias force exerted by the bias member.

  • Patent number: 8011611
Abstract: In a recording medium transporting mechanism, a flange member is attached on either side of a roll paper and the flange member has a diameter smaller than a maximum outer diameter of a roll paper. Support rollers support a corresponding one of the flange members in a rotatable manner. The support rollers are moveable along the axis of rotation of the roll paper. The sum of an outer diameter of corresponding one of the flange members and the support rollers is greater than a maximum outer diameter of the roll paper. A rewinding roller of at least a length equivalent to a distance between both sets of support rollers when the sets of support rollers are farthest apart is engaged with a support roller within the set of support rollers and can rotate the flange member in a rewinding direction over a desired amount of continuous time.

  • Patent number: 6288818
Abstract: An optical scanning apparatus includes a plurality of light sources which emit first and second beams. First and second coupling lens units respectively couple the first and second beams emitted by the plurality of light sources. A rotary deflector which has pairs of mutually-opposite reflection surfaces and deflects the first beam in a first direction by one of the reflection surfaces and deflects the second beam in a second direction opposite to the first direction, by another of the reflection surfaces. First and second imaging units scan an image surface of a photoconductive medium along a first half of a main scanning line by focusing and deflecting the deflected first beam onto the image surface, and scan the image surface along a second half of the main scanning line by focusing and deflecting the deflected second beam onto the image surface, such that the first and second halves form a substantially straight scanning line on the image surface when the rotary deflector is rotated.

  • Patent number: 4963930
Abstract: A developing apparatus using a dry developer in the form of a toner. The apparatus includes a housing having an opening which is located to face a photoconductive element. A vent is formed through the housing to release a pressure being developed in the housing, while a filter closes the vent to filter out a toner cloud. A smooth air guide plate which is more than 5 millimeters wide is provided in an edge portion of the opening downstream of a developing position with respect to an intended direction of a rotation of the photoconductive element. The air guide plate is spaced apart from the photoconductive element by a distance less than 2 millimeters and serves to increase the velocity of air flowing into the housing through the opening and, thereby, prevents toner particles from being released to the outside of the apparatus.

  • Patent number: 4788570
Abstract: A developing device includes a developing sleeve driven to rotate for transporting a film of charged developer as carried thereon past a developing station where the film of developer is applied to an electrostatic latent image to have it developed. Also provided is a sponge roller pressed against and driven to rotate in the same rotating direction as that of the developing sleeve, so that the developer is supplied to the developing sleeve at one side of the contact between the developing sleeve and the sponge roller and any residual developer on the developing sleeve is removed at the other side of the contact. Preferably, a desired voltage difference is established between the developing sleeve and the sponge roller. Furthermore, the sponge roller is preferably so structured to have a sufficient conductivity level at least at its outer peripheral surface thereby allowing the residual charge on the developing sleeve to be discharged sufficiently.
