Abstract: This invention relates to a filter cloth suspending apparatus in which a filter cake is produced by pressing sewage and waste water between filter cloths with filter plates, and the obtained cake is discharged. In the apparatus, an upper edge of the filter cloth (3) is supported on an upper supporting bar (13), on the other hand, a lower edge of the filter cloth is formed in a concave shape, and a suspending member (15) is connected to both corners (18, 20). Thus, the contact of the lower edge of the filter cloth with the upper supporting bar is prevented, and damage of the filter cloth is prevented. Further, sagging of the lower edge of the filter cloth is also prevented.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for cake removal in a filter press, and comprises a filter-cloth jolting mechanism as the cake removing means, with individual filter plates interconnected by loose connecting means for separating the filter plates one from another in equally spaced-apart relation. A jolting device for swinging the filter plates as carried by guide rails is connected to the filter plates, so that if the filter plates are caused to swing when they are in spaced-apart condition, lower end portions of adjacent filter plates are caused to strike against each other, such that a jolting effect is thereby given to associated filter cloths so that cakes are removed therefrom.

Abstract: This invention relates to a filter press in which between a pair of heads a plurality of filter plates are connected to one another by loose connecting means. In the improved apparatus, the heads are both movable so that the filter plates may be moved in sequence, simultaneously from both end sides, toward the center to close the intervals therebetween or away from the center to provide intervals therebetween, whereby the time required in assembling and separating the filter plates can be considerably reduced. When the filter plates in assembled state, if one of the heads is pressed, while the other head is placed under action of stoppers, the filter plates are vigorously tightened by a cylinder having a shorter stroke than that in the prior-art apparatus.

Abstract: A fluorine-containing polyester which comprises essentially as the constituting units (a) a group of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Rf is a perfluoroalkyl group having 8 to 21 carbon atoms and n is an integer of 0 or 1 and (b) a group of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R is one of the groups represented by the formulas: ##STR3## wherein R.sub.1 to R.sub.6 is each a hydrogen atom or a lower alkyl group, R.sub.1 and R.sub.3 being optionally combined together at the terminal carbon atoms to form a cyclic ring, X is a halogen atom or a lower alkyl group and m is an integer of 0 to 4, and is useful as a water and oil-repelling agent or a non-sticking agent.

Abstract: An arrangement for treating wastewater containing soluble organic matter through the proliferation of aerobic microorgnisms to purify the wastewater. In an apparatus having a wastewater tank, a water pervious drum rotatably mounted in the tank and partially submerged in wastewater therein, and a multiplicity of biological contactors packed in the drum, the improvement comprising the biological contactors being of hollow structure, each having at least two small openings, a subsidiary biological contactor being provided in the interior of each biological contactor where required, the contactors being compactly packed in the drum so as to be prevented from movement therein.

Abstract: A filter apparatus wherein the filter tank is separated by a water-penetrable partition wall into an upper section forming a filtrate reservoir and a lower section forming a filter chamber. Floating filter medium is placed in the filter chamber. Water to be filtered is fed into the filter chamber at the bottom thereof and caused to flow upward, passing through the floating filter medium. The filtrate is removed from reservoir.

Abstract: A fluorine-containing copolymer which comprises essentially as the constituting units (a) a group of the formula: ##STR1## wherein Rf is a perfluoroalkyl group having 3 to 21 carbon atoms and n is an integer of 0 or 1, (b) a group of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R is a residue obtained by eliminating a group: ##STR3## from a cyclic acid anhydride and (c) a group of the formula: ##STR4## wherein R' is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group or an aryl group and m is an integer of 2 or 3, and is useful as a water and oil-repelling agent or a non-sticking agent.

Abstract: Sludge like sewage sludge is fed at the beginning of a path of travel of two endless belts of filter material. The sludge, carried between the two endless belts, is compressed and dehydrated between a drum which is supported in bearings with its periphery in contact with one of the endless belts and pressure belts which are trained around a plurality of rolls and brought into contact with the other of the endless belts. The pressure belts are composed of a multiplicity of narrow belts. Pressing by individual pressure belts is applied to the endless filter material belts at a suitable number of stages into which the path of the filter material belts is divided. Preferably, pressure is exerted on the sludge by a smaller number of pressure belts at early pressing stage and by a larger number of pressure belts at later pressing stages.

Abstract: A compound of the formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN Q is a hydrogen atom, --CH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 Rf or a hydrocarbon residue having a valence corresponding to m which may contain one or more of --O--, --COO--, --NH--, --N.dbd. and ##STR2## IN THE CHAIN, R is a hydrogen atom, a hydrocarbon residue or --CH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 Rf and m is an integer of not less than 1, Rf being a perfluoroalkyl group, an .omega.-hydro-perfluoroalkyl group o an .differential.-chloro-erfluoroalkylgroup having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, which is useful as an agent for rendering fibrous materials oleophobic and anti-soiling and may be prepared by reacting a perfluoroalkylpropylene oxide of the formula: ##STR3## wherein Rf is the same as defined above, with a reagent of the formula:Q'(NHR').sub.mwherein Q' is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon residue having a valence corresponding to m which may contain one or more of --O--, --COO--, --NH-- and --N.dbd.

Abstract: A 2-hydroxy-1,1,2,3,3-pentahydroperfluoroalkyl derivative of either one of the formulae:[RfCH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 OOC].sub.m QandQ'(NR.sub.1 R.sub.2).sub.m'wherein Rf is a perfluoroalkyl, an .omega.-hydro-perfluoroalkyl or an .omega.-chloro-perfluoroalkyl group having 4 to 20 carbon atoms, Q is a hydrocarbon residue having a valency corresponding to m which may contain one or more of --O--, --COO-- and --OH in and/or on the chain, Q' is a hydrogen atom or a hydrocarbon residue having a valency corresponding to m' which may contain one or more of --O--, --COO--, --NH--, --N.dbd. and ##STR1## IN THE CHAIN, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each a hydrogen atom or a group of the formula: --CH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 Rf, at least one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 being --CH.sub.2 CH(OH)CH.sub.2 Rf, m is an integer of not less than 2 and m' is an integer of not less than 1, which is useful as an oil-repellent agent or an anti-soiling agent for fibrous materials.

Abstract: In the filter press of the type in which a plurality of movable frame members are arranged between a pair of heads with at least one filter cloth supported therebetween, one of the heads of the press is movably supported so that the movable head may be advanced and retracted by a hydraulic cylinder for tightening the frame members, being carried out under a condition that the heads are closest to each other so that the frame members are tightened and the cakes-discharging operation being carried out by travelling the filter cloth under another condition that the heads are remotest from each other so that the frame members are separated and the other head of the press, which is fixed in conventional filter presses, is also supported movably so that it may be advanced and retracted.

Abstract: A hydroxypolyfluoroalkyl-containing silane derivative having the formula ##EQU1## WHEREIN EACH OF R.sup.1 and R.sup.3 is alkyl; each of R.sup.2 and R.sup.4 is alkylene; X is alkoxyl, alkyl, hydroxy, chlorine or hydrogen and at least one of the groups represented by X is alkoxyl, hydroxy, chlorine or hydrogen; p is 0 to 2, q is 0 or 1, r is 0 to 5, y is 1 or 2 and x is 2 or 3, provided that the sum of p and qr is at least 1 and the sum of x and y is 4; z is 1 or 2 and is equal to or less than y; and Z is a group represented by ##EQU2## WHEREIN R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, p, q and r are the same as above and each of R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 is a hydrogen or ##EQU3## and at least one of the groups represented by R.sup.5 and R.sup.6 is ##EQU4## R.sub.f being a perfluoroalkyl group: the above compound being useful as water- and oil-repellent agent.
