  • Patent number: 7203141
Abstract: A recording medium has a first area in which data encoded with a first error correction code is recorded and a second area in which data encoded with the first error correction code and data decodable with a second error correction code that is different from the first error correction code are mixedly recorded. Data that causes the cumulated value of a DC component per unit period of data reproduced from the second area to deviate is recorded in the second area.

  • Publication number: 20060202869
Abstract: Six record areas for predetermined data that has been encoded and digitally modulated are formed in a data record area on a disc. The record areas have different offset compensation amounts. The offset compensation amounts allow all offset amounts that may take place in an error correction code encoder to be compensated. Thus, regardless of the offset amount generated by the error correction code encoder, encoded and modulated data that has been generated by the conventional EFM modulating system and recorded in one of the record areas securely causes DSV to deviate. Each of the record areas is set to a sufficient length that allows the effect of which DSV deviates to be recognized.

  • Patent number: 7098820
Abstract: In a data arrangement of a CD-ROM format, data in which DSV control data cannot be placed due to a restriction on the format is followed by control data of two bytes. Main data in which any data cannot be placed is followed by a special control data sequence of two bytes. As a result, after a data sequence of which it is unknown whether the start bit is plus or minus, the sign of the start bit of a diverging control data sequence preceded by the special control data sequence can be kept constant. Consequently, DSV values can be deviated in one direction.

  • Patent number: 7054238
Abstract: The present invention relates to a signal shaping circuit which is capable of shaping a returning light signal of a modulated signal whose signal level and signal length are arbitrarily varied such that it can be demodulated. The shaped signal pattern generation circuit 15 has, in advance, variation pattern information with regard to a predetermined variation pattern to be applied on a returning light signal recorded therein. The counter 13 inputs a returning light signal, counts a signal length thereof and sends a count value to the shaped signal pattern generation circuit 15. An A/D conversion 14 detects a signal level of the returning light signal and sends the detected signal level to the shaped signal pattern generation circuit 15 in a similar way. The shaped signal pattern generation circuit 15 refers to the variation pattern information and calculates an optimum signal pattern corresponding to a signal length and a signal level of the inputted, returning light signal.

  • Patent number: 7054244
Abstract: The present invention relates to a modulated signal generator capable of carrying out signal processing at a higher speed or capable of supporting a special format and a new format with ease. A modulation processing storing unit 130 has a modulation processing program required for producing an optical disc master 320 stored therein in advance. Information data recorded in an master optical disc 310 is reproduced by an information reproducing unit 110 and is outputted to a modulation controller 120. The modulation controller 120 carries out the signal modulation processing onto the reproduced information data in accordance with the signal modulation processing program so as to generate a data stream and stores the data stream in a modulated information storing unit 140 as necessary.

  • Publication number: 20050243691
Abstract: A molding and film forming apparatus 700 molds a disc substrate from a stamper 330 formed from an optical disc disc-master 320 and forms a coating film, for example, a reflective film onto the disc substrate, thereby forming a recorded optical disc 360. A postscript apparatus 200 writes postscript information once onto an optical disc 340 formed by the molding and film forming apparatus 700. As postscript information, a laser beam is irradiated to a predetermined interval of the optical disc 340, a portion which is detected as a pit is formed, and an optical disc 350 on which postscript information 420 has been recorded is formed. Identification information which enables each optical disc 340 to be identified can be postscribed. The postscript information is recorded in a conventional format and the postscript information can be reproduced by an existing reproducing apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20050141711
Abstract: A data recording medium on which digital data is recorded eliminates acquisition by a user of a plurality of data recording media for different applications to improve the convenience is provided. Digital data for a plurality of different applications and UIDs as identification information added for the individual applications are recorded on the same data recording medium. For example, a music CD on which data for promotion and data for a normal version are managed with different UIDs from each other is distributed as a CD for promotion. The data for promotion allow free reproduction thereof. If a user tries the music CD and wants to purchase the data for a normal version, then the user would access a server owned or managed by a record company of a distributor of the music CD to perform a charging procedure. This validates the UID with which the data for a normal version is managed, and after the UID is authenticated by the server, reproduction of the full data is permitted.

  • Publication number: 20050117491
Abstract: A recording method for converting m-bit data into n-bit (where n>m) data whose run length is restricted and recording the converted data on a recording medium, the recording method comprising the step of selecting first n-bit data according to an immediately preceded n-bit data, first n-bit data immediately followed thereby, and second n-bit data immediately followed thereby so that the cumulative value of DC components per unit time becomes small.

  • Publication number: 20050086578
Abstract: Data is arranged to one block obtained after a CIRC process so that a predetermined data pattern is recorded into a predetermined portion on a disc. By tracing back an encoding step of a CIRC, a layout of recording data of one block before the CIRC process for allowing the predetermined data pattern to be recorded into the predetermined portion is obtained. An error correcting process of a CD-ROM mode 1 is executed. If a position of a parity coincides with data for forming the predetermined data pattern, a value of user data of an encoding sequence to form the parity is changed. After error correction encoding of a CD-ROM is executed, encoding of the CIRC is executed to the recording data of one block.

  • Publication number: 20050080877
Abstract: On a CD-R 1, a UID that is unique identification information is pre-recorded. When the CD-R 1 is loaded into an information terminal unit 10, the UID is read and transmitted to a management server 12 through Internet 11. The management server 12 determines whether or not predetermine data can be recorded onto the CD-R 1 in accordance with the received UID. For example, when the UID is valid, contents data is downloaded from the management server 12 to the information terminal unit 10 and recorded onto the CD-R 1. In addition, for example, when the UID is valid, a notification that represents that contents data is permitted to be copied or moved is transmitted from the management server 12 to the information terminal unit 10. As a result, contents data recorded on another recording medium can be copied or moved to the CD-R 1.

  • Publication number: 20040174791
Abstract: With data of four symbols (FIG. 11A), a parity of two symbols (FIG. 11B) is created. These six symbols are EFM-modulated. Each symbol of eight bits is converted into a pattern of 14 bits (FIG. 11C). In a pit/land sequence formed on a disc (FIG. 11D), two symbols are rewritten. One symbol is (0×40). When an additional recording process is performed for the bit/land sequence, the pit length becomes long (FIG. 11E). The reproduced 14-bit data is converted into eight bits on the reproducing side. Thus, the original data (0×40) is rewritten to (0×22). A parity is also changed so that the additionally recorded data symbol (0×22) is not detected as an error.

Abstract: A CD which cannot practically be copied. A recording method, wherein, when a certain portion of main data is recorded by being encoded by a first encoding method and the other portions of the main data is recorded by being encoded by a second encoding method, an encoding process is performed by the first encoding method so that, when data which is recorded in such a manner that the data encoded by the first encoding method is decoded by a decoding method corresponding to the first encoding method, and thereafter, is further encoded by the second encoding method, is decoded by a decoding method corresponding to the second encoding method, the sum value of DC components per unit time increases.
