  • Patent number: 5827475
Abstract: A hydraulic cylinder 41 of a second driver 40 brings both a scraper 20 and a first driver 30 into integrally movable relation so that the scraper 20 is caused to intrude into an uptake 10 of a furnace via an opening 14 defined on a vertical wall of the uptake 10, and an accretion removing pawl 21 is positioned on a horizontal wall surface 12 of the uptake 10. Subsequently, a hydraulic cylinder 31 of the first driver 30 moves the scraper 20 on the horizontal wall surface 12 to scrape off any accretion having occurred thereon. The accretion thus scraped is blown off the horizontal wall surface 12 by pressurized air supplied from a pressurized air-supplying source connected to a flange 27.

  • Patent number: 5685892
Abstract: A metallurgical furnace installation for use in copper-smelting process is disclosed which includes a metallurgical furnace, a charging assembly for introducing anode scrap into the furnace through an opening, and an impingement-preventing device attached to the charging assembly for preventing the anode scrap from impinging on a furnace bottom upon charging, whereby the furnace bottom will not be damaged. The impingement-preventing device may be a turning mechanism attached to a chute for turning the anode scrap being introduced, or may be a bending press for bending a leading end of the anode scrap. Additionally, a method for charging anode scrap into a metallurgical furnace of a copper smelting installation is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5542651
Abstract: A launder for discharging melt from a metallurgical furnace is disclosed which includes a launder body having one end connected to the furnace. The launder body defines a fluid passageway for allowing the melt, flowing from the metallurgical furnace into the one end to flow therethrough in a direction away from the furnace. The launder body includes a threshold portion for determining the melt level in the furnace, above which the melt in the furnace begins to flow into the launder body. The launder body further includes a closing portion constructed to receive a closing material thereon to close the fluid passageway of the launder body. The closing portion is arranged at a position displaced downstream with respect to the threshold portion and has a bottom lower than the threshold portion. Additionally, a metallurgical furnace installation using the above launder is disclosed, in which a pair of the launders are arranged while ensuring space for casting or removing operations of castable.

  • Patent number: 5497978
Abstract: An apparatus for charging anode scrap into a converting furnace in a continuous copper smelting line without impairing the heat balance of the furnace. Anode scrap is moved into the opening of a chute by means of a charging mechanism. An outer shutter of the furnace is opened and an inner shutter is closed. After closing the outer shutter the inner shutter is opened and anode scrap is charged into the converting furnace. The operation is continuously repeated as the anode scrap is continuously conveyed into the converting furnace. The temperature of the furnace is maintained substantially constant since it is not exposed to ambient air temperature.

  • Patent number: 5468279
Abstract: A method is disclosed for water-granulating calcium ferrite slag which is produced in copper converting processing and contains 10 to 30 weight % of CaO. In the method, water is caused to flow at a flow velocity of 7 to 25 m/sec, and the calcium ferrite slag is introduced into the water flow such that weight ratio of water to slag amounts to no less than 100. With this method, the occurrence of phreatic explosions can be effectively avoided.

  • Patent number: 5441205
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for water-granulating slag being discharged from a discharging launder. The apparatus includes a receiving launder arranged below the discharging launder. The receiving launder has opposite side walls to define a widthwise space therebetween. A water-jetting device is provided to jet granulating water to the slag, being discharged from the discharging launder, to water-granulate the slag. The jetting device includes a plurality of partitioning plates arranged in the receiving launder so as to span the widthwise space between the side walls thereof and spaced from each other so as to define a plurality of water outlets, and a water supplying unit for supplying the granulating water into the water outlets to be jetted therefrom against the slag.
