  • Patent number: 7854264
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relate to a volumetric compensating annular bellows used to compensate two fluid volumes by an annular displacement. This is achieved using a bellows welded on to a tube with a varying shape radius. A bellows is arranged within the annulus and is deformable in an annular direction in response to fluid volume expansion. The bellows can be used in several oilfield applications for fluid compensation.

  • Patent number: 6840336
Abstract: The invention refers to a drilling tool and method that, among other aspects, provides for a sleeve with expansible pads for positioning the drilling tool in the desired direction during drilling. The pads are hydraulically expanded and retracted by a valve system which selectively diverts mud flowing through the tool to the desired pads. The tool may also be provided with a flexible tube connecting the sleeve to drilling tool for maneuvering along deviations or curves in the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 6668261
Abstract: A method of upgrading a program, used in a data processing device having a permanent memory, from a version n to a version n+1, wherein, at any time, both the recent version and the previous version of the program are stored in a first and a second location of the memory. Each one of version n and version n+1 of the program is using configuration data of format n and format n+1, respectively, when it is used as a current version. The configuration data of format n are automatically stored into the memory when version n+1 of the program is stored into the second location of memory.

  • Patent number: 6057784
Abstract: The system of the present invention includes measurement instrumentation that is located in or near the drill bit and used in a measuring-while-drilling system. The instrumentation can be located in a bit box, an extended sub between the drilling motor assembly and the bit box or in the drill bit. The drill bit is connected directly to the bit box or extended sub. The close proximity of the instruments to the drill bit allows for more reliable and useful measurements of drill bit, drilling and formation conditions. The bit box houses instruments that measure various downhole parameters such as inclination of the borehole, the natural gamma ray emission of the earth formations, the electrical resistivity of the earth formations, and a number of mechanical drilling performance parameters. Sonic or electromagnetic signals representing these measurements are transmitted uphole to a receiver associated with receiving equipment located uphole from the drill bit.

  • Patent number: 5912918
Abstract: In a multicellular communications network system comprising base stations and a plurality of remote stations, a remote station listens for frames of information emitted by the different base or remote stations, in order to insert the network. The base stations and the remote stations comprise means for emitting the frames of information using a sequence of changing frequency hops of different operating frequencies. The remote station determines a set of "n" operating frequencies (Fi), from which it sequentially listens for a fixed period of time equal to 1/n of the frequency hopping period (FH) of a base station. When a frame of information is received by the remote station during one of the fixed period, the information is collected and processed in order to select the base station for attachment.

  • Patent number: 5137109
Abstract: A seismic source for use in a borehole (10) comprises a resonant system (26) which is excited at its resonance frequency while said resonance frequency is caused to vary in controlled manner, thereby performing a frequency sweep. To this end, the pressure inside the enclosure (32) containing the reaction mass (30) of the resonant system (26) is raised to a given initial static pressure by means of a high pressure unit (60), after which the pressure inside the upper chamber (38) of the enclosure (32) is caused to vary according to a substantially sinusoidal law, by means of an electrically controlled valve (52) fed from a low pressure unit (46), while the static pressure is caused to vary regularly via a constriction (74).
