  • Patent number: 5579575
Abstract: A method and apparatus of forming a solder connection between a plurality of elongate bodies, comprises:(i) forming an initial connection between the elongate bodies by inserting them into an induction heatable connecting element of a connector, the connector comprising a dimensionally heat-recoverable sleeve and, retained within the sleeve, the connecting element and a solder insert that is in thermal contact with the connecting element; and(ii) heating the connector (a) by subjecting the connecting element to an alternating magnetic field so that it is heated by induction thereby melting the solder insert, and (b) subjecting the sleeve to hot air and/or infrared radiation, thereby causing the sleeve to recover. The apparatus for applying heat to an elongate connector, comprises a first heat source which comprises an induction coil, and a second heat source arranged to generate hot air or infrared radiation.

  • Patent number: 5514836
Abstract: A device for forming an electrical connection between a plurality of elongate electrical conductors comprises an electrically insulating sleeve, and contained within the sleeve a resiliently deformable tapering coil and a quantity of fusible polymeric material, the device being arranged so that the elongate electrical conductors may be connected by twisting them into the coil so that at least part of the coil is deformed and heating the device so that at least some of the fusible polymeric material melts and then, when solidified, substantially binds the coil in its deformed state.

  • Patent number: 5422438
Abstract: An electrical crimp connector (1) comprises a crimp barrel (3) located within an insulating sleeve (4), and a quantity of gel (5) located within each end region of the insulating sleeve at each end of the crimp barrel. Each quantity of gel contains an aperture (10) to allow wires (2) to be inserted into the crimp barrel. Once the connector has been crimped, the gel located within each end region of the insulating sleeve seals it against moisture ingress, forming a moisture-resistant electrical connection.

  • Patent number: 5308924
Abstract: A device for forming a solder connection between a plurality of electrical conductors, comprises a hollow, dimensionally heat-recoverable sleeve 1 formed for example from polyvinylidine fluoride, the sleeve having one end that is open to allow the insertion of the electrical conductors therein, and another end that is closed by a substantially spherical sealing insert.
