  • Patent number: 4372336
Abstract: An improved, four-chamber chest drainage system include (1) a collection chamber for collecting blood and other liquids to be drained from the pleural cavity of a patient, (2) an underwater seal chamber for preventing contamination of the patient's pleural cavity by atmospheric air, (3) a manometer chamber for accurately indicating the negative pressure in the patient's pleural cavity, and (4) a suction control chamber for regulating the amount of negative pressure (or suction) applied to the patient's pleural cavity. The suction control chamber has a flexible diaphragm adapted to flex in response to increased negativity above a predetermined level to block the opening to the suction source until the negativity returns to the predetermined level. A combination vent valve-and-filter assembly permits ready venting of the collection chamber to filtered atmospheric air.

  • Patent number: 4296759
Abstract: A blood collection tube is provided with a stopper adapted to be pierced by a needle cannula for introducing a sample of blood into the collection tube, and a valve disposed within the tube which allows blood to flow from the proximal end of the needle into the blood collection chamber of the tube but prevents the reflux of blood from the collection chamber to the patient.

  • Patent number: 4235229
Abstract: A tracheostomy tube assembly (10) includes a tracheostomy tube (11) and a neck collar (14), which limits movement of the tracheostomy tube (11), but allows adjustment of the height of the tracheostomy tube (11). The collar (14) has a deformable sleeve (29) that is oversized relative to a portion of the tracheostomy tube (11) which extends therethrough. In an undeflected condition, portions (46,46) of the sleeve (29) engage the tracheostomy tube portions (43) to fix its height. When the sleeve (29) is deflected by compressing the sleeve (29) together at selected points, the engaging sleeve portions (46,46) will be deflected away from the tracheostomy tube portions (43) to permit axial movement thereof.

  • Patent number: 3994643
Abstract: Apparatus for applying an elastic band around the cuff of an elastic glove which includes extruding a stripe of elastomeric material around the cuff of the glove while on a glove form and curing the stripe. A tray carrying a row of glove forms, each having a glove thereon, is stopped to position one of the forms at a band applying station. A mast having an extruder nozzle adjacent the cuff edge is moved circumferentially about the cuff in a generally elliptical path to avoid engagement with adjacent forms while allowing the forms to be closely spaced for economical manufacturing.
