  • Patent number: 11473518
Abstract: Methods are provided for reducing exhaust gas emissions during a cold-start of an engine. In one example, a method may include generating a flame front in an exhaust port of an exhaust system, heating exhaust gas flowing into an emission control device of the exhaust system and thereby expediting the approach to a light-off temperature of the emission control device, and directing the flame front back to the cylinder as part of a combustion stroke of the four-stroke engine cycle.

  • Patent number: 10550783
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for adjusting engine cranking speed, fueling, and spark initiation to increase fuel vaporization during cold-start conditions. In one example, a method may include, during engine cold-start, cranking the engine at a lower speed relative to a nominal cranking speed while injecting fuel and disabling spark for a number of engine cycles, and after the completion of the number of engine cycle increasing the cranking speed and initiating spark.

  • Patent number: 10087860
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for improving engine startability during cold-start conditions, when operating with gasoline fuels, alcohol fuels, or blended fuels. In one example, a method of engine cold-start control may include initiating fuel injection for cylinder combustion with manifold pressure lowered via intake throttle adjustments. The manifold pressure is lowered based on an optimization between cylinder charge reduction and improved fuel boiling at the lower pressure.

  • Publication number: 20080154513
Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product related to the maintenance of optimal control of diabetes, and is directed to predicting patterns of hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, increased glucose variability, and insufficient or excessive testing for the upcoming period of time, based on blood glucose readings collected by a self-monitoring blood glucose device. The method, system, and computer program product pertain directly to the enhancement of existing home blood glucose monitoring devices, by introducing an intelligent data interpretation component capable of predicting and alerting the user to periods of increased risk for hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, increased glucose variability, and ineffective testing, and to the enhancement of emerging self-monitoring blood glucose devices by the same features. With these predictions the diabetic can take steps to prevent the adverse consequences associated with hyperglycemia, hypoglycemia, and increased glucose variability.

  • Publication number: 20070057718
Abstract: A method for reducing interference from at least one narrowband interferer in a pilot symbol assisted receiver (10) includes the steps of; receiving a stream of received data, passing the stream of received data through an adaptive filter that reduces interference from any narrowband interferer, passing the filtered data through a correlator (7, 8) arranged to detect pilot symbols, when a pilot symbol is detected passing the stream of received data to a receiving apparatus without first passing the received data through the adaptive filter (3), and wherein the pilot symbol includes one or more repetitions of known data or pseudo noise.
