  • Patent number: 7310660
Abstract: A set of unsolicited e-mail messages is collected and “finger printed” by either sampling the unsolicited message and using portions of the samples to form the identifier or by hashing a portion of the message. These “finger prints” are used to construct an unsolicited message database. The client's e-mail messages are processed in off-line manner by periodically fetching their messages; “finger printing” each message in a manner identical to the unsolicited messages; checking to see if the “finger print” is in the unsolicited message database; discarding any messages with a “finger print” in the unsolicited message database; and forwarding any message with a “finger print” not in the unsolicited message database to the “clean” POP server.

  • Patent number: 7231109
Abstract: The electronic-to-optical multiplexer takes n electronic inputs Xi where i=0 to n?1; converts Xi into optical signals Yi each with a different wavelength; wavelength multiplexes Yi; samples Yi with an optical frame sync signal having a period of n*p seconds and a pulse width w; wavelength demultiplexes Yi; staggers Yi by i*p seconds; wavelength multiplexes Yi; gates an optical clock signal with Yi; and uses the gated optical clock signal as the optical output. The optical-to-electronic demultiplexer takes n optical sources Zi each with a different wavelength; wavelength multiplexes Zi; gates Zi with the input of the optical-to-electronic demultiplexer; wavelength demultiplexes Zi; staggers Zi by (n?i)*p seconds; wavelength multiplexes Zi; gates Zi with the frame sync signal delayed by (n?1)*p seconds; wavelength demultiplexes Zi; detects Zi with detectors DECTi; and uses the output of DECTi as the electronic outputs.

  • Patent number: 5841775
Abstract: A N input and N output, scalable switching network (80) is implemented with an array of log base x of N rows and N/x columns of routers (40-68); where each router has 2x ports and where the rows of routers are connected to each other via a blocking compensated cyclic group mapping interconnect (49 and 59). A N input and N output, bi-directional scalable switching network (90) is implemented with an array of log base x of (N/2) rows and (N/2)/x columns of routers (40-68); where each router has 2x ports, and where the rows of routers are connected to each other via a blocking compensated cyclic group mapping interconnect (49 and 59). The routers provide destination routing. The levels of blocking compensated cyclic group mapping interconnect provide connectivity between the rows of routers.

  • Patent number: 5793906
Abstract: In a supercomputer that employs a large number of processors operating in parallel, groups of processors are assembled in clusters. Each processor in a cluster is provided with an array of lasers, a different one targeted for a particular detector associated with a specific processor of a different cluster. The detectors associated with the processors in the different cluster are assembled into an array of detectors. A processor wishing to communicate with a processor in a different cluster excites the laser in its associated array that is targeted to the detector of the processor with which it intends to communicate. The patterns of light of the various laser arrays are superimposed into one pattern focused on the detector array by means of an optical tunnel and a spherical lens.

  • Patent number: 5408351
Abstract: An optical communication system includes an optical transmitter which transmits data symbols as pairs of optical pulses having 1) a first predetermined time separation representing a first inputted signal and 2) a second predetermined time separation representing a second inputted signal. The first optical pulse of each pair of pulses may be synchronized to a clock signal of the transmitter. The clock signal operates at a rate which insures that the inter-data symbol spacing is greater than the spacing between the pulses of a symbol pulse pair. The receiver generates a first output signal in response to a pair of pulses having a first predetermined time separation and generates a second output signal in response to a pair of pulses having a second predetermined time separation. The receiver combines the first and second output signal to recover a clock or strobe signal. Sagnac switches are used to implement optical AND circuits utilized in the transmitter and receiver.
