    Abstract: A two-piece firearm projectile includes a jacket and a penetrator. The proximal end portion of the penetrator is received in and mates with a corresponding recess defined in the inside surface of the jacket. A three-piece projectile includes a jacket, a slug, and a penetrator. The slug and at least part of the penetrator are encased by the jacket, where the slug is positioned between the base of the jacket and the proximal end of the penetrator. The proximal end of the penetrator overlaps axially and mates with the distal end of the slug. In one example, a frustoconical end of the penetrator is received in and mates with a frustoconical recess in the distal end of the slug or the jacket as the case may be.

    Abstract: An ammunition cartridge has a tube extending along a central longitudinal axis from an aft end to a fore end. The tube has an interior surface and an exterior surface. A metallic head has a sleeve portion secured to the tube along an aft section of the tube and has a centrally-apertured web portion spanning the sleeve portion so as to form a base of the cartridge. A basewad is contained within the tube and is separately formed therefrom. The basewad is located proximate the aft end of the tube. The basewad has a generally cylindrical exterior surface engaging the interior surface of the tube, an aft surface contacting the metal head, an interior surface. The interior surface extends from a generally forward-facing inner portion, forward and outward to a generally inward-facing fore portion so as to define a skirt portion of the basewad between the exterior surface and interior surface. At least one projectile is carried within a fore volume of the tube. A propellant charge is located aft of the projectile.

The base of each of the prongs is reinforced at the mouth of the front end by a fillet on each side between the ogive portion of the jacket and the base of the prong in the hollow front end. These prongs project generally radially outward upon upset of the bullet in soft tissue after passing through barrier materials such as clothing and deer hide.The jacket has a coating of copper oxide on its inner and outer surfaces which bonds the soft lead core to the jacket and minimizes lead wash.

    Abstract: A controlled expanding small caliber bullet is disclosed which comprises a unitary metal body of generally H shaped cross section having an ogival nose portion, a cylindrical heel portion behind the nose portion, and an integral transverse partition therebetween. The nose portion has an empty hollow point formed by a forwardly open central blind bore. The heel portion has a rearwardly opened cavity filled with a dense material such as lead. The cavity is closed behind the lead core by a solid disk crimped into mechanical engagement with the heel portion of the metal body.
