    Abstract: An air handling unit can include a first airflow passage and a second airflow passage having separate entrances. A cooling module can be arranged in the second airflow passage for cooling air passing there through. A cover, blocker, or other barrier can move between a position at least partially blocking the first entrance to the first airflow passage and at least partially blocking the second entrance to the second airflow passage. In various aspects, the barrier can be moved to intermediate positions to affect a ratio of air flowing through each of the passages and to thus control an overall amount of cooling provided to discharged air that corresponds to a mixture of the air directed through the cooling module and the air directed around the cooling module, which may be mixed together upon exiting the separate passages.

    Abstract: An insert for monitoring pressure changes between a cold environment and a hot environment, such as a cold aisle/hot aisle cooling system, includes a conduit having two separated openings, and a frame configured for placement between the hot environment and cold environment. One or more temperature sensors are positioned within the conduit proximate to both of the openings, and configured to sample a first temperature corresponding to the cold environment near the first opening and a second temperature associated with the hot environment near the second opening. In a cooling system, the insert can be used in conjunction with a controller to receive temperature data associated with the first and second temperatures, and determine, based on the temperature data, a direction of flow of air flowing in the conduit and a degree of overpressure or underpressure associated with the cold environment.

    Abstract: A cold air outlet assembly can include one or more cold air outlets arranged to channel cold air to a contained cold region or cold aisle, and one or more bypass ducts arranged to fluidly connect a hot external environment with the cold region adjacent the cold air outlets. The bypass ducts include backdraft dampers arranged to allow flow of hot air from the hot environment to the cold region and restrict flow of cold air from the cold region to the hot environment so that, in operation, limited mixing of hot air and cold air within the cold region occurs under low pressure conditions in the cold region. The temperature of the mixed hot and cold air can be sensed and used for controlling airflow to the cold region.

    Abstract: A cooling system, e.g. for a hot aisle/cold aisle datacenter system, can detect local pressure differences between the hot and cold aisle by way of a conduit containing a temperature sensor positioned between the hot aisle and cold aisle. The temperature sensor can detect a temperature of airflow between the aisles by the temperature sensor in the conduit. This conduit is defined by a frame or insert that includes a first opening and a second opening separated by a nonzero distance and that is configured to penetrate a containment element separating the hot aisle and cold aisle. The cooling system can, based on the interstitial temperature, determine a direction of flow of the airflow between the hot region and the cold region and detect recirculation between the hot region and the cold region based on the direction of flow.

The updated operating speed may depend on a target output volume for the air handler and an intermediate resistance value for a filter of the air handler. The intermediate resistance value may be determined by instructing the fan to operate at a first operating speed for a fixed period of time. During the fixed period of time, a pressure sensing system may sense an observed differential pressure measured across the filter. The observed differential pressure may correspond to the intermediate resistance value. The intermediate resistance value may be used to identify, from a set of filter loading values which may be retained in a filter loading data structure, the updated operating speed for the fan such that the air handler is capable of achieving the target output volume.
