A linkage assembly is employed that is coupled to each of the one or more pivots. The linkage assembly includes a linking component that has a first location mounted to the seat bottom and a second location mounted to the seat back. A cam is coupled to the seat back location, wherein a dowel is permanently affixed to the cam. An end distal from the cam, a pin extends perpendicularly from the dowel and is angled at between 20 and 70 degrees upward from a plane formed by an arm channel.

The frame component may have a second end channel and the cross member may is fixably attached to the second end channel and extends between the first end channel and the second end channel. The frame component may be a seat back frame component or a seat bottom frame component. The cross members may be attached to the end channels by welding. Further, the convertible seat frame may include a second frame component having at least one support leg, and a hinge connected to the second frame component. The first frame component may be connected to the hinge.

    Abstract: The present invention is for a method of converting a standard jack knife hinge into a new hinge, which allows access to a storage area underneath the seat bottom while retaining the ability to be used as a sofa and a bed. The new hinge is created by removing the seat bottom frame from the seat bottom bracket, fixably attaching a first attachment bracket to the seat bottom frame, pivotally attaching the first attachment bracket to a second attachment bracket, and fixably attaching the seat bottom bracket and the second attachment bracket to the seat base frame. The present invention also claims the finished combined hinge as well as a convertible sofa utilizing the new hinge.

The bracket includes a plastic insert frictionally engaging the arm rest connecting rod and locking pin for reducing vibration noise while the vehicle is moving. The insert includes a camming surface to assist in connecting the arm rest to the bracket. The insert further includes abutments for guiding the stop pin to provide easy removal of the arm rest from the bracket.
