  • Patent number: 7341258
Abstract: A seal assembly seals first and second operational surfaces spaced apart by a gap. The first surface includes a seal groove having a base surface and first and second side surfaces. A sealing element in the seal groove has a foot portion extending parallel to the base surface which engages the second operational surface. A leg portion extending from the foot portion toward the base surface has first and second surfaces. A back-up ring adjacent to the sealing element prevents extrusion of the sealing element into the gap. A first side of the back-up ring mates with the second surface of the leg portion, and a second side mates with one of the first and second side surfaces of the seal groove. An energizer element located between the base surface and the foot portion applies uniform pressure to the leg and foot portions when the energizer element is compressed.

  • Patent number: 6086112
Abstract: A fluid swivel coupling device for rotatably interconnecting a pair of fluid conduits. The coupling device includes a plastic swivel housing forming an internal cavity and a fluidly connected first port. The internal cavity includes a cylindrical inner surface having an annular housing retention groove and a spaced apart annular seal groove. A plastic tubular second swivel body portion extends between an internal end and a second port. The internal end is rotatably seated within the internal cavity and includes an annular retention groove opposing the housing retention groove and an annular seal groove opposing the seal groove within the housing. The second swivel body portion is fluidly connected with the first port to define an all plastic fluid passageway between the first and second ports. An annular seal is seated within the internal cavity between the opposing seal grooves for preventing fluid from leaking out of the cavity.

  • Patent number: 5163692
Abstract: A composite one-piece dynamic lip seal forms a dynamic ring seal between static and dynamic surfaces in a variety of applications requiring fluid sealing. The lip seal body is generally U-shaped in cross section and is principally made from a soft elastomeric material. The seal has ID and OD legs on opposite sides of a cavity in its high pressure end, forming ID and OD lips of the seal, either of which can be the dynamic leg of the seal depending upon the application. A U-shaped energizer spring is integrally bonded to the elastomer and is aligned with the U-shaped cross section of the seal so that ID and OD legs of the spring apply radial spring loading to the ID and OD legs of the seal. A reinforcing ring integrally bonded to the elastomeric body of the seal forms an exterior contact surface and an elastomeric reinforcement along a substantial length of the dynamic leg of the seal, from a low pressure end of the seal to an end spaced from the high pressure end of the seal.
