  • Patent number: 4676115
Abstract: A semi-automatic mechanical change gear transmission system (11) including a manually operated non-synchronized mechanical change gear transmission (12), a plurality of two-position sensors (278, 280, 282, 284, 286 and 290) cooperating with sensor ramps (146, 148, 150, 152, 154 and 156) manually provided on the operated shift rails (104, 106 and 108) for sensing manual selection of engagement or disengagement of a particular ratio gear, speed sensors (48 and 50) for sensing the rotational speed of the jaw clutch elements associated with a particular selected ratio gear, a power synchronizer assembly (10) and a inhibit mechanism (304) associated with a standard interlock/neutral sensing assembly (254) to resiliently resist axial movement of the shift rails (104, 106 and 108) from the axially nondisplaced positions thereof in the absence of synchronous rotation of the jaw clutch members associated with a particular selected ratio gear.

  • Patent number: 4659669
Abstract: Disclosed herein are methods and means for microbially expressing human influenza hemagglutinin proteins, useful in the preparation of vaccines, by recombination of DNA gene sequences coding for hemagglutinin protein with microbially operable promoter-operator DNA and transformation of microbial host therewith.

  • Patent number: 4515029
Abstract: A variable mechanical advantage/variable effective length shifting mechanism (30) is provided, preferably for shifting a synchronized positive clutch transmission. A compound mechanism comprises a first member (34) in the form of a variable mechanical advantage/variable effective length first class lever having a first lever portion (34), a second lever portion (42) and a fixed pivot axis (38), and a second member (44) in the form of a second class lever pivotably mounted about a pivot axis (70) extending substantially parallel to and spaced from the first pivot axis. A pivot pin (48) extending substantially parallel to the first and second pivot axis is slidably received in axially extending slots (46 and 84) provided in the first and second members, respectively. A resilient biasing member (58) is provided for resiliently biasing the pivot pin axially away from the first pivot axis and axially toward the second pivot axis.

  • Patent number: 4497396
Abstract: A variable mechanical advantage/effective length shift lever assembly (12) of the first class lever type for a synchronized transmission (10) is provided. The shift lever assembly comprises a relatively solid section (56 and 68) and a resiliently deflectable section (70). The shift lever assembly (12) defines a second portion (62) having a first effective length (72) when the deflectable section (70) is in the nondeflected position thereof and a second shorter effective length (80) upon deflection of the resiliently deflectable section (70).

  • Patent number: 4457501
Abstract: An adjustable spring stop assembly (10) for a spring (S) received within a bore (B) is provided. The adjustable spring stop assembly comprises a washer member (12) and an adjustment member (14). The washer member is axially fixable within the bore and is provided with a centrally located aperture (16) and a plurality of radially extending, radially aligned slot pairs of different diametrical lengths (18--18, 20--20, 22--22, 24--24, and 26--26). The adjustment member is provided with a pair of axially extending and inwardly tapering ear portions (34) which may be received within any selected one of the slot pairs. The adjustment member is provided with a fitting (40) which is accessible from the exterior of the bore through the centrally located aperture in the washer member for incrementally selectively varying the separation (44) of a surface (32) on the adjustment member from the washer member.

  • Patent number: 4388838
Abstract: A multiple substantially identical countershaft (16, 16A), simple change gear transmission (10) having two-piece (20, 20A, 22, 22A) countershafts is provided. The use of two-piece countershafts allows the countershafts to be supported by three bearings (72, 74 and 76) while not requiring greater than normal manufacturing accuracy of the transmission housing (H). A driving connection between the front and rear countershaft portions is utilized which will allow a degree of axial misalignment between the front and rear portions and which when connected assures proper circumferential alignment of the countershaft gears.
