  • Patent number: 4703567
Abstract: A heat generating electrical device is connected to a heat sink of metal. An element, preferably formed of copper or silver and plated to increase ease of soldering and corrosion resistance, is mechanically anchored in the thickness of a heat sink (e.g. of aluminum or steel) so that part of the element is accessible. Then the electrical component is soldered to the accessible part of the element. The mechanical anchoring may be accomplished by punching, drilling, or the like, and locating in the hole so formed a copper stud having a head abutted against a plate, and then compressing the assembly mechanically to anchor the stud in the plate, with the electrical components soldered to the stud head.

  • Patent number: 4616580
Abstract: A knife for dispensing anhydrous material within the subsoil consisting of a configured body of cast metal, the lower end defining a sacrificial mass providing the knife with excellent wear characteristics. A dispensing tube is cast within the body having orifices protected from plugging and a soil replacement and compacting element is homogeneously defined on the rear portion of the knife body immediately replacing the displaced soil to close the formed slit and retain the dispensed material.

  • Patent number: 4364049
Abstract: An interrogator/transponder for identification of co-operating pulse radar-fitted marine vessels comprises a detector responsive to signals in the radar frequency band and a C-band transmitter/receiver connected such that on receiving a C-band interrogating signal together with a radar signal an identity signal produced by a signal generator is transmitted. When used for interrogation an interrogating signal is produced by a second signal generator for transmission with the radar signal and the received identity signal from the interrogated vessel is presented on a radar display adjacent to the return radar signal.

  • Patent number: 4169282
Abstract: A multiphase, full-wave rectifier assembly for an alternator has first and second mutually parallel plates carrying first and second sets of diodes. Connectors electrically connect terminals of respective diodes of the first and second sets with each other and with terminals of respective field diodes heads of a multiphase stator of the alternator are connected respectively with the connectors. Each field diode is held in a respective recess defined between first and second plates of a common electrical connector for the field diodes. Each recess is defined by a U-shaped portion in the first plate of the common electrical connector and a part of the second plate of the common electrical connector, said part closing the U-shaped portion. Deformable tags on the ends of the U-shaped portions pass through corresponding slots in the second plate of the common electrical connector and are deformed so as to hold said plates together.

  • Patent number: 4137560
Abstract: A multiphase full-wave rectifier assembly comprises positive and negative plates and an electrically insulating body which are stacked together in spaced apart relationship. The positive and negative plates carry first and second sets of three power diodes respectively while the electrically insulating body has three recesses therein. A field diode is mounted in each recess and a respective electrical connector connects one terminal of each field diode with a respective terminal of one of the power diodes in each of the first and second sets. A common electrical connector mounted on the body serves to interconnect the other terminals of the field diodes and also has portions which engage against the bodies of the field diodes to hold the latter in their respective recesses. The common connector is secured to the electrically insulating body by means of rivets which are disposed adjacent the diode-engaging portion of the common connector.
