  • Publication number: 20030010107
Abstract: A method for monitoring an operating condition of a vehicular tire. The method includes providing magnetized areas in the tire and magnetic field sensors on the chassis of the vehicle. Rotation of the tire produces magnetic field pattern signatures which characterize the tire's materials, construction and deformation conditions. Changes in magnetic field pattern signatures from a baseline are indicative of impending abnormalities in tire integrity that can be recognized in advance to forestall vehicle accidents attributed to tire faults.

  • Patent number: 6491855
Abstract: A method of making tooling by preparing a master model having a first surface and casting a thin-skinned mold from a first master surface, with an inner surface corresponding to the first master surface and an outer surface spaced from the inner surface thereof. A bolster is fabricated in releasable contact with the outer surface of the thin-skinned mold and serves as a support structure for the thin-skinned mold or a replica thereof. The bolster and thin-skinned mold are removed from the master and the thin-skinned mold supported by the bolster in contact with the outer surface thereof. A thickness calibration material is located on the inner surface of the thin-skinned mold and corresponds in thickness to an article to be produced. A matching contra halfmold set is formed against the calibration material, the calibration material and thin-skinned mold being supported by the bolster.

  • Patent number: 6474287
Abstract: A reciprocating mechanism for use in an engine comprises a reciprocating member which is movable in a substantially linear reciprocating direction between two ends of travel, a piston provided on the reciprocating member, and a constant breadth cam and follower, the follower being coupled directly to the reciprocating member to translate linear movement of the reciprocating member into rotary motion of the cam, and the mechanism being such that movement of the reciprocating member at the two ends of its travel is reversed in dependence upon the rotation of the cam, the follower lying to the side of the piston bore and the piston being rigidly mounted to the reciprocating member.

  • Patent number: 6382691
Abstract: The present invention provides a method and detachable handle support for carrying paint containers and the like. The detachable handle support comprises an elongated rigid member having a lower portion and an upper portion. The lower portion includes protruding sections and a pair of convexly curved lateral arms for embracing the outer side wall of a paint container. The rigid member is positioned parallel to the longitudinal central axis of the paint container, with the upper portion of the rigid member extending to a predetermined length above the uppermost portion of the paint container. A handle is attached to the upper portion for carrying the rigid member, with the handle being positioned substantially normal to the upper portion and extending radially inward over the uppermost portion of the paint container.

  • Publication number: 20020030294
Abstract: A closed mould method of producing composite mouldings is provided. A sensor system (4, 5, 6, 7, 8) is provided for sensing distortion of one (1) of the mould elements while the resin mix is being fed into the mould cavity. A signal is generated if a predetermined degree of distortion is sensed.

  • Patent number: 5947313
Abstract: A molded plastic basket for a shopping cart includes side and front walls formed of a molded gridwork of ribs extending at an angle relative to the upright direction of the basket when it is assembled to a shopping cart chassis. The front and side walls intersect each other along convex arcuate curved corner sections with the gridwork ribs continuously flowing around the corner sections up to a mold parting line provided midway around the curved sections. The ribs of the side walls extend parallel to each other to permit molding of the side walls by a transversely moveable mold section that moves towards and away from the side wall area during molding and the ribs of the front wall likewise all extend parallel to each other in a direction generally perpendicular to the direction of the side wall ribs to enable molding of the ribs of the front wall by another moveable section of a mold that moves in a direction generally perpendicular to the direction of motion of the mold section forming the side walls.

  • Patent number: 5915256
Abstract: A multimedia method and apparatus for presenting to a user a story using a bimodal spine is disclosed. The first mode is substantially passive and relates the story in a narrative presentation of synchronized audio and image information. The second mode is substantially interactive and relates the story in text or in text and associated image information. The script used for the audio presentation is identical to the script used for the text presentation. The system permits the user to freely transfer between the two modes while maintaining narrative continuity between the modes, and it also allows the activation of hypertext features from either mode. The system provides for enhanced features, including a library function, an "Interactive Poll" feature, a "Face-to-Face" interview feature, and sponsor advertising.

  • Patent number: 5675298
Abstract: A low-loss, low-inductance metal interconnect for an electrical signal in a microcircuit comprises a plurality of spaced-apart generally parallel metal interconnect lines disposed in a plane over an insulating layer. The metal interconnect lines are interleaved with and electrically insulated from a plurality of spaced-apart generally parallel metal lines disposed in the plane. The metal interconnect lines together comprise a signal interconnect path, and the metal lines are coupled to a fixed voltage potential, such as ground.
