Patent number: 7331422Abstract: A muffler includes an inner passage residing in an outer shell, and a stationary fan residing in the inner passage. The fan creates a vortex in a flow through the inner passage thus improving the flow and reducing the exhaust sound level. The inner passage includes an inner passage shell and the fan comprises vanes extending inward from the inner passage shell and turned at approximately a 45 degree angle to a centerline of the inner passage. Pinch zones at the entrance and exit from the inner passage further reduce the exhaust sound level. The inner passage shell is preferably a perforated inner passage shell, and a sound deadening material resides between perforated inner passage shell and the outer shell.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2005Date of Patent: February 19, 2008Inventor: Alan Wall

Patent number: 6336122Abstract: A tool referred to herein as an archive maker operates on one or more existing archive files that contain multiple object oriented classes to generate one or more new archive files. The archive maker takes a list of required classes, analyzes those classes in one or more existing archive files to determine any classes upon which they depend, and creates a new archive file with all the required and dependent classes. This allows the classes that are not required to be stripped out of the archive file. The archive maker may also be used to partition an existing archive file into multiple new archive files according to one or more partition criteria. In addition, the archive maker may be used to consolidate multiple existing archive files into a single new archive file.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 1998Date of Patent: January 1, 2002Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Jeffrey Peter Lee, Clifton Malcolm Nock, Schuman M. Patent number: 6252600Abstract: A computer system has a graphics subsystem employing a rasterizer and a frame buffer, with a digital-to-analog converter for producing drive signals to a video display. A bus interface acts as a gateway between a PCI bus and the graphics subsystem; this interface manages commands and DMAs passing between the host processor and various parts of the graphics subsystem. Within the interface, two command FIFOs are employed, one for storing commands/data sent from the host for 2D display (window management) and another for 3D applications. Using two command FIFOs eliminates the need for host semaphore, FIFO draining, and the latency associated with these operations. Timers are provided in the interface, associated with the two command FIFOs, to manage and regulate the frequency with which the system automatically switches between 2D and 3D FIFO processing. Host intervention is minimized by use of a context macro store for holding locally the sequences for context save and context restore which are used repeatedly.Type: GrantFiled: October 2, 1998Date of Patent: June 26, 2001Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ashu Kohli, Christopher Edward Koob, Thomas P.
