  • Publication number: 20060150458
Abstract: Described is a label cassette for mounting to the front side of an enclosure and for holding and displaying a label used to identify a configuration of that enclosure. The label cassette includes a transparent cover, a tray, and a hinge mechanism. The tray has a pair of guide rails for engaging respective guide structures on the enclosure to align the label cassette for attachment to the enclosure, a capture mechanism to secure the label cassette to the enclosure, and a label surface to hold a label. The hinge mechanism attaches the transparent cover to the tray and permits rotation about an axis parallel to the back edge of the transparent cover. Mounted to a ledge that extends from the front of the enclosure, the label cassette does not occupy vertical space or interfere with connectors, cables, or airflow vents on the front of the enclosure.

  • Publication number: 20050211647
Abstract: Described is an equipment tray having integrated rail guides. The tray has a base sized for supporting a unit of electronic equipment, a back wall extending perpendicularly from the base at a back end of the tray, and opposing side walls spatially separated by the base. Each side wall extends from front to back to meet the back wall. Each side wall has at least one upper rail guide and at least one lower rail guide extending laterally from that side wall. The at least one lower rail guide is spatially separated from and opposite to the at least one upper rail guide. The upper and lower rail guides slidably engage a portion of a side rail when the tray is installed in the cabinet rack. Each side wall also has a flange at the front end for attaching the tray to a mounting rail of a cabinet rack.

  • Publication number: 20050212390
Abstract: Described is an adjustable side rail having a first elongate rail portion, a second elongate rail portion, and a tab projecting from one end of one of the first and second elongate rail portions. The second elongate rail portion has spatially separated opposing upper and lower grooves. Each groove slidingly receives one of the top and bottom edges of the first elongate rail portion when the first elongate rail portion engages the second elongate rail portion. The tab has a side edge with a notch formed therein for catching an edge of a hole in a mounting rail into which the tab is inserted and for anchoring the one end of that elongate rail portion to the mounting rail while a length of the side rail is adjusted.

  • Publication number: 20050214099
Abstract: Described is a fastener that includes a shank having a thread, a head, and a stepped portion situated between the head and the threaded portion. The stepped portion has a diameter that is larger than the diameter of a round hole in a first type of mounting rail and smaller than a length of a side of a square hole in a second type of mounting rail. When the fastener is inserted into a round hole, the stepped portion is urged against a front surface of the mounting rail. When the fastener is inserted into a square hole, the stepped portion enters closely into the square hole and the head portion is urged against the mounting rail. Accordingly, the fastener can be used with either of two types of mounting rails: Universal Mounting Rails and EIA Standard Mounting Rails.

  • Publication number: 20050135069
Abstract: Described is a midplane-less data storage enclosure having a control board module with an electrical connector and a bulkhead assembly with a plurality of spaced-apart disk-drive guides coupled to a bulkhead. The disk-drive guides and bulkhead together define a plurality of disk-drive slots. The bulkhead has connected thereto a plurality of first electrical connectors and a second electrical connector in electrical communication with each of the first electrical connectors. Each slot slidably receives a storage disk drive such that the storage disk drive electrically connects to one of the first electrical connectors. The second electrical connector is electrically connected to the connector of the control board module so that each storage disk drive connected to one of the first electrical connectors is in electrical communication with the control board module.

  • Publication number: 20050006118
Abstract: Described is an adaptable EMI/RFI shielding for a panel. The shield includes an electrically conductive shield having first and second sides and a gasket attached on the first side at a periphery of the shield. The shield has a slot formed therein. A panel portion has a front wall and side walls defining an interior region. The panel portion also includes a spring receptacle and a snap that each extends substantially perpendicular from the front wall within the interior region. The spring receptacle has a spring inserted therein with a portion of the spring extending out of the spring receptacle. The snap has a hook at one end of the snap. The spring urges against the second side of the shield and the hook enters the slot and catches onto the first side of the shield when the shield is attached to the panel portion.

  • Patent number: 6695149
Abstract: A technique for fastening a panel to an electronic cabinet frame involves inserting portions of rigid support members (e.g., rails) of the electronic cabinet frame into grooves defined by fasteners to attach the fasteners to the portions of the rigid support members of the electronic cabinet frame. The technique further involves positioning catches (e.g., latching members) of the panel adjacent catch members of the fasteners, and moving the panel toward the fasteners such that the catches of the panel engage with the catch members of the fasteners to fasten the panel to the electronic cabinet frame. Accordingly, no screws or other hardware is required to mount either the fasteners or the panel.
