Patent number: 8011327Abstract: A variable voltage electronic pet training apparatus. The variable voltage electronic pet training apparatus controls the intensity of the stimulation by the controlling the voltage level present at the primary side of the transformer while maintaining a fixed signal to the correction pulse switch. A trigger signal contains information about the desired stimulus intensity level. A controller interprets the trigger signal and produces a voltage control signal associated with the desired energy level. Application of the voltage control signal to a power converter keeps the voltage level applied to an energy storage capacitor sufficient to produce the desired stimulation intensity.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 2006Date of Patent: September 6, 2011Assignee: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: Christopher E. Mainini, Albert L. Lee, IV, Steven L. Lawrence

Patent number: 7900585Abstract: Described is a two-probe bark control device for detecting an animal's bark by way of an electrode that is also used in delivering an electrical stimulus to the animal. The two-probe bark control device includes a housing, a first probe, and a second probe. The first and second probes include first and second electrodes, respectively. The first electrode is secured to the housing by way of a resilient overmolding such that the first electrode extends outwardly from the housing and has the potential to vibrate within the housing. The housing is carried by the animal such that the first probe detects the bark of the animal and the first and second probes deliver an electrical stimulus to the animal in response the first probe detecting the animal's bark such that the first probe both detects the animal's bark and delivers an electrical stimulus to the animal.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2007Date of Patent: March 8, 2011Assignee: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: Albert L. Patent number: 7644685Abstract: A unitized receiver-housing bearing planar collar for a pet wherein the bottom end of the receiver housing is integrally formed with the collar, the bottom perimetrical edge of the receiver housing being oriented substantially parallel to the plane of the collar. The collar is overmolded, free of independent connectors or fasteners, on the receiver housing adjacent the bottom end of the receiver housing such that when the collar is affixed to the neck of a pet, for example, there is established and maintained a pre-selected orientation of the receiver housing relative to the pet.Type: GrantFiled: March 10, 2006Date of Patent: January 12, 2010Assignee: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: William S. Publication number: 20090309738Abstract: An animal deterrent mat with animal detection capability. The animal deterrent mat produces a detection pulse that is attenuated when an object makes contact with the animal deterrent mat. The animal deterrent mat monitors the amplitude of the detection pulse and compares the measured detection pulse amplitude to one or more threshold values. When the amplitude of the detection pulse is below an upper threshold corresponding to the attenuated signal caused by an animal making contact with the animal deterrent mat and, optionally, above lower threshold corresponding to the attenuated signal caused by another object making contact with the animal deterrent mat, such as a human, a deterrent pulse selected to deter the animal from crossing or remaining on the animal deterrent mat is generated. When the amplitude of the detection pulse is below the optional lower threshold, no deterrent stimulus is generated.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 9, 2008Publication date: December 17, 2009Applicant: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: David A. Hinkle, Albert L. Lee, IV, Steven M. Schrick, Duane A. Gerig

Publication number: 20080196238Abstract: An animal training apparatus including an electrical conductor embedded within a flexible member, and a housing having a through-opening for receiving the electrical conductor therethrough. The flexible member is molded around the electrical conductor and the antenna, while the electrical conductor is positioned such that it extends into the housing through the through-opening. As a result of the molding process, the flexible member shields the housing through-opening, discouraging substances such as water from accessing the interior of the housing via the through-opening.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 22, 2008Publication date: August 21, 2008Applicant: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: Albert L. Publication number: 20080196671Abstract: Described is an animal waste product notification device for detecting the occurrence of an animal excreting animal waste product at a defined location, containing the waste product such that the animal cannot track the waste product from the defined location, and notifying a local or remote individual of the occurrence. The animal waste product notification device includes a grate, a bin, and a notification device. The grate includes a detector that is responsive to fluidic animal waste product such that when the waste product passes through apertures defined by the grate, the detector generates a detection signal. When the detector generates the detection signal, the notification device notifies a user of the animal waste product notification device. The bin defines a receptacle that receives the waste product after it passes through the grate.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 19, 2007Publication date: August 21, 2008Applicant: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: Ricky L. Publication number: 20080134987Abstract: A bark control device for deterring a dog from barking. The bark control device includes a vibration dampening material forming or covering at least a portion of the bark control device housing. The vibration dampening material reduces the transfer of vibrations through the bark control device housing by reducing the vibrations to levels undetectable by a bark sensor, by preventing the production of vibrations having characteristics sufficiently similar to a bark, and/or by inhibiting the propagation of such vibrations through the bark control device housing. The vibration dampening material of the housing reduces the occurrence of corrections to the dog due to vibrations emanating from a source other than a bark by the dog.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 29, 2007Publication date: June 12, 2008Applicant: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: Albert L. Lee, William S. Groh

Patent number: 7034693Abstract: Described is a locator device for indicating the relative location of a dog in a sporting field and for indicating whether the dog is tracking or on point regardless of the orientation of the device. The locator device calculates whether a dog is tracking or on point by measuring the intensity of the movement of the dog with a vibration switch and then interpreting the intensity of movement. The vibration switch includes two electrical contacts that are disposed substantially on the longitudinal axis of the vibration switch.Type: GrantFiled: August 19, 2003Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignee: Radio Systems CorporationInventor: Albert L. Patent number: 6668760Abstract: An apparatus for controlling the barking of a dog through application of a spray deterrent, or spray control bark collar. The spray control bark collar administers a dose of a pressurized substance in response to the barking of the dog. The spray control bark collar detects the barking of the dog through the measuring of vibrations produced by the dog. In addition, the spray control bark collar delivers successively larger doses of the spray deterrent to the dog to deter the dog from further barking should the dog fail to respond to previous deterrent attempts. Finally, the spray control bark collar monitors the usage of the spray deterrents to gauge the amount of the deterrent substance remaining in the deterrent substance reservoir.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2002Date of Patent: December 30, 2003Assignee: Radio Systems CorporationInventors: William S.
